Title: Think I ruined my pilot file
Post by: khamele0n on July 26, 2011, 01:00:03 am
So it happened like this i quit the mission where i first approach the knossos portal and there's 2 cains i have to destroy but when i go to replay it the game crashed as soon as i pressed the button to continue. Then i try restart the game and it crashes when i try to select the pilot file, after multiple attempts im able to get in with a diff file i made and instantly crash if I try to select the previous pilot file from the barracks and so here's the debug file

make a new pilot then

pilot files are known to spontaneously become corrupt

you'll just have to make a new one

i'm no expert tho

If other pilots work, then yes, that one pilot is probably broken. And if there was a way to fix broken pilot files, I'm sure someone would have told us by now.

In related news,
Code: [Select]
-mipmapthis is actually a horrible command-line flag. You should remove it.

:( spontaneous corruption is not cool is there a way to start from my mission on the new pilot file or at least from not the beginning think i read something like that but it mightve only been for certain campaigns

If I'm not mistaken there is new pilot code in the works, just not released yet, so we only have to have a bit of patience.

Yes. (If you know your stuff,) it is relatively simple to cook up a campaign file, where the campaign starts from a mission that is NOT the actual first mission. A few such exist for the regular FS2 campaign for places where such corruption is usually noticed (Slaying Ravana, The King's Gambit, anything requiring torpedoes, really). And I'm quite sure similar campaign files can be cooked up for BP as well. For the record, though, I can't do it, since I have not dabbled with FRED or similar activities.

Put this in your whatever\freespace2\blueplanet\data\missions directory. Start FS2, go to the tech room, and select the campaign. You'll still get the opening cutscene mission, but after that  it should skip straight to Forced Entry.

I can't guarantee the entire campaign will work if only because I haven't tested the whole thing, but I can't recall any use of campaign-persistent variables in AoA that would cause problems down the road.

cool thanks i had rushed through the campaign to get back to that part but im sure it'll come in handy down the road lol guess ill have to get used to the possibility of spontaneous corruption unless the put out that new pilot code that would be cool

The new pilot code is in "public alpha" (aka. Antipodes 8 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=73257.0)) testing. Feel free to try it, it seems to be much more stable and less trouble than the current pilot code, but it may cause other problems, which is why it is in Antipodes and not in Trunk.
