Title: New problem....
Post by: ScottForster on July 29, 2011, 11:39:25 am
Okay, you might remember my previous issue, where the mods were running slowly.  I don't know if updating Java had anything to do with it, but after I did that, it works fine, even at my maximum resolution.

My new problem is with War In Heaven.   I can watch the opening cut scene just fine,  but when it loads the first actual mission, it crashes out to Windows, and I get some error message about could not load ship classes, etc...  I have installed it according to the instructions,  updated AoA to Director's Cut, etc...

I have set everything up as instructed as well, in the Freespace2 folder, all required VPs are there. I have tried deleting it  re-downloading it, to no avail...

What could be my problem?

Java is completely unrelated to such issues, but glad to hear things work.

Problem is, it does not even load the game, and the box that pops up, has a lot of technical stuff, and says it is saved to clipboard, but I cannot find the info from the box...

Scott, is your entire computer slow, or only when running FSOpen?  Does the problem go away after a restart?

Yes it DOES go away after a restart, and it is only slow when playing FS2 Open, mind you, my computer is not an uber-fast gaming rig, but I really don't think that should be required to play this game...

Hmm, try opening MSCONFIG (start-run-msconfig ENTER) and disable all non-MS services (services tab, check HIDE all MS services box, then uncheck the rest), and uncheck all startup programs.

Then, enable them, say, half a page at a time (remember to always hide MS services so they will always run)... if the problem is a program, hopefully this will let you find out which one.

If FS is slow with half a page, try disabling that half and enabling the other... then you know that you need to check only one half a page of checkboxes, so try half of that half to narrow it down... keep halving it until you find the culprit.

Let us please continue the slowdown discussion in one (1) place. That is, here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=76979.0).
