As some of you that have been over on IRC might have seen, I've started cleaning up, improving and standardizing the wiki User made ships pages, as seen below.
http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Bad_Ulysses (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Bad_Ulysses)
http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/CCF_Minsk (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/CCF_Minsk)
Currently i'm going a bit alphabetically, but if any of you think a certain ship deserves this a bit more, say it and I'll give it priority.
Also, if any of you wants to join me, here is the template I am using:
http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/New_template_user_made_ships (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/New_template_user_made_ships)
Good luck!

I approve.
Are you getting new screens of these ships too? Some of the screens are so outdated that based on a glance, I'd just ignore them if I were looking for assets for my mod. (I say this because that's what I did.. until other team members suggested adding certain ones that looked better in-game that in the old wiki screens.)
-
I'm changing the specification template, adding new links, adding new pics of how the ships look nowadays with 'RECOMMENDED' features, adding 6 way views to be able to see the ship from all angles, adding all retextures. That's what I'm doing!
-

*Ahem*
SOME PEOPLE want to use a few different user made ships from several different mods in their mod, and it's a real pain in the arse to have to download all those different mods and then unpack the files from the .vp's, so would it be ok if we hosted each user made ship separately on the wiki as a .zip file with the .pof and table data inside?
-
Here stems to source of my forever undying hatred of *.vp files.
Some people think its a good idea to stick a POF, a bunch of textures, and a table into a VP file because they're "releasing".
lolno, that's stupid.
-
And some people think it's a good idea to link you to their WHOLE mod when you just want one ship and its associated elements.
Really it just discourages people from making mods.
-
Well that's because no one has bothered extracting the ship from that mod before, and thus no separate archive exists.
Problem lies mostly in "exclusive" ship models since they're only ever released in the mod bundle and thus...well, people don't bother repackaging them, and they were never individually packed to begin with. :/
It would be very helpful for someone to pack all the ships individually in a non-vp'd archive, but...I don't think anyone has the time to perform such a task (as it would be quite involving).
-
People could do it bit by bit as they extract them for their own purposes and upload them to the wiki rather than an external site??? :nervous:
-
Uploading it to the wiki isn't going to happen.
It'll always be hosted at some external site such as FSMods.
-
That's not what wiki storage space is for. Add them to Sectorgame or FSMods, not directly to the wiki please.
[EDIT]Ninjaed by Droid.

Modified the article to use the newer (and better) templates.
EDIT: for that matter if some one is interested the old templates even in canon ships could (should?) be replaced with new ones. For comparison see new (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/GTC_Fenris#Performance:) vs old (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/SC_Rakshasa#Performance:) (or for fighter comparison, new (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Ulysses#Performance:) vs old (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/GVF_Thoth#Performance:))

i approve of the new format:D

New is better.
