The Scavenger carrier WIP- Comes in two flavors:
Military red
(http://www.wpierce.com/wlp/FS2/civcar.gif)
And civilian ultrablack
(http://www.wpierce.com/wlp/FS2/civcarbl.gif)
Houses, services, and launches a maximum of four robotic drones for a variety of applications, chiefly salvage and mining. Military version comes with special hookup to accomodate 12 of the smaller Assault Drones. The traditional 'battleaxe' design provides added protection for the fighterbay and a fuel-efficient weighting for maximum maneuverability in confined spaces (such as, say, inside what's left of a derelict cruiser)

*bleeping* texturers...
oh...btw, ni- erm...spiffy, ha a replacement for that n- word. anyways....spiffy model you have there, and shouldn't the millitary one have turrets, and the civillian one have at least traces of hull plating?
-
Nawp. Civvie model's cast, more like a plastic or fiberglass than a metal (in fact, the military one's got that same structure underneath, and some nonconductive ceramic plating on top. It also makes it look completely different from the messed-up plated ones I did for the other supernation in my TC. Both models are too small for turrets- they fit 3 people maximum (two if you wanna be able to move much, or breathe), and you can see from the detailing in the cockpit- turret would have to be at least as big as that, if not bigger.
And it's not exactly skinned, if that's what you're thinking. Final version will be, this one's just got some box mapping on a skin I picked up for something else altogether, ran it as a test (which failed utterly), and the red one looked good enough for now.

Don't know about anyone else, but it seems to me a space ship that dark would be hard to see in space and thus far too easy to run into if you're flying by sight. :) Would think a civillian ship would have brighter colors then that. (After all, how many ultra black cars without headlights do you see on the road?) Interesting design anyways.
-
How many cars have a need to avoid getting jumped by various unsavory sorts in the outer reaches of the Galaxy? Much more trouble to be had by malicious intent than by random coincidence in the sparsely populated far reaches of infinite space.
Of course you don't see them. It's dark out and they're black. You might see mine passing, but that's because it's more of a rust color, and its headlight is occasionally on.
-
That's why there's running lights and IFF codes and sensors on ships... so that you can SEE a ship coming even if it's black. (of course, that's assuming they WANT to be seen. ;7 )
-
Are these FS ships? The textures look too animated, sortof, if you know what I mean, particularly on the civilian one. Not too bad though.

an interesting carrier design. if you take a close look at my chaos class, you can see places for docking clamps to clamp to on the sides of the ship. the new version, if you look closely has a crew hatch in the back. i put those there hoping that the freespace code would be released and i could place a bunch of docking brackets on the side of a ship. nd then have a bunch of chaos class ships bocked, awaiting a chance to be deployed.

...Did any of that post, beyond the first sentence, have even a tangential connection to anything here?
Some p1mps are too shameless.
