I've been playing Earth 2140 (one of the better C&C clones) and its sequels with the Eurasian Dynasty so it was only a matter of time until I got it in my head to make a tank for them, its the first tank I did and the tracks were really difficult to make, I tried to stay true to the faction but since the games state the ED covers the whole of Eurasia I understood that they would have access to many different styles of tanks (german, french, british, etc) but with a penchant for russian designs.

edit: forgot to include the others I've made, the first is a laser variant as there is one in the game (the MBT 201L) and the second is a double cannon variant like the ones on Earth 2150. Now I'm trying to make a artillery variant but its proving difficult.

Too bad that trying to implement ground vehicles in FreeSpace is completely hopeless. Believe me, I tried.

You tried, I suceeded. :)
You have to either threat them as static turrets or capships. Nothing else is worked so far, though I'm slowly getting back to the concept, so chances are, AI improvements have made tanks possible.
I like the design. Keep it up, we need more ground vehicles to use in FS (now there are about 7 total, of which 2 are quite ugly).
BTW, did you tried other Earth series titles? You can see some awesome tank designs in E2150 and E2160.

Stick with Lunar Corporation, young man. Conquer the stars. :pimp: ;)

Note, he stated that he played E2140, which is missing LC (only ED and UCS). Their designs are indeed awesome, and might be easier to implement in FS (tank might have colision problems when trying to move).

If the tanks get even slightly jostled from their predefined waypoint paths, they go berserk again. A gross hack requiring perfectly defined paths and perfectly level ground is not success.

You might want to discuss that observation with Twisted Infinities, who have had apparently-working tanks since...probably before I regged on Sectorgame.

I'm lost here...Tanks in space?

Atmospheric (Today-style) campaigns, or other campaigns with planetary bodies containing bases.
Look around, they'll be pretty small, but these are AA-tanks (Not the model on this thread of course, this is an older video) on Mars. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smRUBhAHrgQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=30s)

Very nice model, however it will never get to game built the way it is without a ton of optimization work. Being a sketch-up user myself I can say you will need to reduce the number of sides in all those curves (I believe Sketch-up tools default to 24 sides) and make sure every face is a quad or triangle in order to export to blender or some other modeling program for finishing work. It takes a good deal of discipline to create models in sketch-up that can make the transition to blender or other modeling program without tons of problems. I would suggest you start off smaller to get the feel for it and work your way up to more complex. You will also need to learn to identify and correct mesh errors created during the export. Sketch-up is notorious for creating multiple over lapping and/or excess faces.

Good mesh, but why is this posted on this forum?

I really want to emulate that mission so bad, and I hope these tanks will help with that.
Keep up the great work, It's always good to see (new) talent popping up and deliver good stuff for people to use in campaigns.

Nice tank, I like the scales. 2150 was really cool, and I can really see it in this.
And I know that SoL also will probably have a need for functioning land vehicles.
