I want to create custom engine effects but I'm new to this kind of modding so I need your help here.
First, is it possible to create forward engines that work just like normal ones?
Second, is it possible to create engine textures that will change colour (using animated texture for ex.) according to amount of thrust?

Regarding your first question, please define "work just like normal ones".
As for your second question, no, that is not possible at this time.

Forward engines can be done only with maneuvering thrusters code.

From what I've seen, strength of manoeuvring thrusters' effect depends on the speed in the direction they're attached to. Normal (back) engines' strength effect is dependant on throttle position. In other words, if you push throttle to max the engines will glow at their max strength, even if the fighter is moving at 10% of max speed. For manoeuvring thrusters, if your at 10% of max speed in a certain direction engines will glow at 10%. Also, for normal engines you can use modelled thrusters (which suits me very well). I'd like my forward engines to be modeled thrusters too. I'll create a short video of how I want the engines to work.

This isn't the case anymore. I remember changing the maneuvering thrusters (relatively recently) so that the length of the maneuvering thruster is proportional to thrust percentage, not speed. Looks much better (try a recent Nightly build).

This is how I wanted the engines to work. I know it's impossible in FS engine ATM but how close to it can we implement in game?

That's pretty much how they look RIGHT NOW.
