One day, I was sitting in front of my computer and decidiing what game to play when something suddenly hit me like a swarm of Tornadoes.
What happened to those great space simulators like X-Wing and TIE Fighter? I mean, the X-Wing Alliance game was good. But after that, they have been coming out with games like FOrce Commander, which sucked, and soon, Jedi Starfighter. What I am pissed at is that they have stopped producing space simulator games like X-Wing. Now, you fly the fighter from the outside. I mean, how many of us would like to fly a Naboo starfighter and get to see the interior while you fly? I know I would. Flying from inside the cockpit makes the gaminig experience the whole lot more realistic.:mad:
Plus, how many of us want to fly an X-Wing after a Yuuzhan Vong coralskipper? Imagine voids sucking up all the shots you are pouring on it.:)
And what about the FreeSpace story? Is it going to end with the destruction of the Capella system by the Shivans? Is Volition Inc ging to do something about it or are they just going to let it stay that way?

Erm, you can replay X-wing and Tie-fighter. Lucasarts remastered them for windows 95/98/ME.

If only I could get WC to run at a normal speed.
Screw all the StarWars crap. I want Privateer 3.

The X-Wing was amazing game, long time ago. It's indeed sad that there aren't too many good new spacesims anymore.
And nothing will happen to Freespace story, I guess.

What's this Privateer game all about? I've heard of it but never played or touched it.

It's elite-type of game set in Wing Commander universe. Quite good and a lot better than some of the more recent attempts at such a game. Go try it.

Privateer and Righteous Fire are some of the best space sims ever. Great story, great playability, cool ships and a huge universe to explore... I never played The Darkening, though, but I heard it's not even on the Wing Commander universe anymore...

In Rogue Squadron one of the views was from the cockpit...
I guess it's just that nowadays most people like the first person shooter feel more and so they want to view their ships from the outside.

I could never get Righteous fire to work. It'd get to the intro and stall.
Darkening kept trying to force me to put in my soundcards IRQ settings and stuff but seen as I've got integrated sound it wouldn't accept the settings. Bastards. Why the hell didn't they put a nice 'No Sound' option in.
My only criticisms about Privateer are that there was only one story path, there weren't enough groups and the groups didn't hunt you down when you decided to use one of their ships for target practice. It'd've been nice to have seen a mission with "Wanted: Bounty Hunter to track and eliminate freelancer who has been raiding Guild ships in Troy". But I suppose that was beyond the technology of the era.

Actually...my friend and I made quite a plunder blasting apart Merchant ships and selling the components....and then a few plunderings later two Orion gunships started hunting us. Chased us all through Troy and then they blasted us apart (Tarsus - 2 Meson Cannons VS 2 Orions with Plasma Cannons and Ion Pulse Turrets).

I normally just use Privedit to get a Galaxy class fighter, load it with Steltek 3's and blow the **** out of everything in sight. Confed, Kilrathi, Merchants. Whatever.

Galaxy? Thats a big freighter....you mean the Centurion? Thats my prefered fighter of choice and I rather dislike the Steltek guns. In the expansion it was always 2 Ion Pulse and 2 Fusion otherwise it was 2 Ion Pulse and 2 Tachyon. I always liked that combo.

The Darkening was great. It did happen in the WC universe, but it was so away (?) in the future you couldn't really recognize anything from WC. It was bad in many areas, but it ruled in the most important ones: gameplay, trading was really interesting, it was beautiful. Pbs were that the plot was kindda common even if it had quite a few interesting surprises, the cutscenes were awful ( worst video compression ever my friends), and when you reached the end, you had so powerful ships and weapons it became hella too easy. Anyway, I liked it a lot, it was up to my own standards ( maybe I don't ask much enough, who knows ).

I did play Privateer and Righteous Fire looong time ago. :D
It was in the dawn of my computer experiences, I barely had any experience with computer games and english back then. You bet that I did not ever finished either of the games because of that. :D
I tried both of them a year or so ago, it was hard to get them working on W2k machine. (Had to make a dos-boot disk)
But the games were too fast and resolution too small! I barely saw anything from Orion's cockpit! :o The space between HUD's was so small... :sigh:

My first space sim was one of Lucasart's old Star Wars games, the onse where you could barely steer it, because you already flew on a pre-set course.
Also, I remember Chess, my very first game, and another Lucasarts game, called Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffae(sp?), an very l337 WWII game...

You sure it was in the WC universe? If so please tell me how one could know. I never figured it out... actually I still believe it's another universe alltogether :)

That's what I have been saying for the past few months since I first read the first New Jedi Order series. Actually, I started from Dark Tide 1: Onslaught. After Chewie died. Now I have collected until Dark Journey. Jaina was quite close to succumbing to the Dark side. Fun to read about Jagged Fel and Jaina. Wonder if they are going to get together? Like become a couple or something...;7
Back to the topic. I would REALLY like to fly against a Yuuzhan Vong fleet in an X-Wing with Bothan Cruisers, E-Wings and other New Republic ships in a big battle. See those voids suck up lasers. It would be fun!!! Plasma flying everywhere.
Hey! Does anybody have a picture of a Bothan Cruiser and some ships from the Yuuzhan Vong and maybe an E-Wing?

I have never played X wing allience but I know one thing for sure.
Freespace 2 is better than X wing allience.

X-Wing Alliance was fighters with standard lasers and a few types of warheads and giant capital ships that fire nothing but turbolasers and stuff. FreeSpace 2 had more weapons, that's all.

What about Jetfighter IV, has anyone ever played that? I think the default view in that is a HUD just like FS.

I have played XWA a few times, but in my opinion it wasn't nearly as good as even the original FS, much less FS2. :p

Read Rebel Dream. That book's awsome. As to JAg and Jaina, I think it's pretty obvious what's gonna happen with them.

I missed Star By Star though. So, I don't know what happened to Anakin and Jacen and I missed the fighting. Damn! I can't seem to find the book anywhere in Singapore!!!

Before you read anything else, read Star by Star!!!! That is the best NJO book to date. Read it read it read it!!!!!! If you can't find it, order it off the internet!!!! If you come across anybody who has it, murder them and take it. Just READ THAT BOOK!!!!
