RIP to Flt Lt Jon Egging who died guiding his failing aircraft away from buildings.

My thoughts are with his family, friends and the unit.

That's awful. :( There was an F-14 crash at an air show near us about a decade ago, and the pilot apparently aimed his craft away from a few houses in the same way.  You can't say enough about that willingness to put bystanders' safety above your own chance of survival.
