Title: how far are we from a new release?

the difference between 3.6.10 and 3.6.12 was one year, and it's been about that long seance then. I don't see any topic talking about it (though I am quite nearsighted so forgive me) so I shall be the audacious user who asks the question, is there any idea on a timetable for 3.6.13 or is it completely no where near a release point yet?

From what I can remember from talking to the team on IRC, I think we're trying to finish up the WiPs we have on our SVN before we release again, as well as finish stuff like shaders, the beams, and such.

There's no 3.6.13 MVP. MVP versions coincide with FSO stable release, which are even numbers. Next MVP will be 3.6.14.

And like every serious modding project, it'll be done when it's done (tm). Just enjoy all the awesome stuff that gets released inbetween ! Nightlies, nuSath, nuMedusa, nuArtemis, nuBoanerges, nuTyphon, nuHades...

I've said this multiple times, but I'll say it again.

There will likely NOT be a 3.6.14 MediaVP release. We have too much to do, and we'd rather have it all out at once, rather than back to back bandwidth killing of two rapid full releases. And as the RC phase cycle for the .14 builds -should- be starting up soon, you'd have more success getting a .14 engine first. But then there are many MORE advancements coming with 3.7.0 which also includes the new pilot code and who knows what else and THAT is the build I'm looking for.

See, previously, we tried keeping to releasing whenever there was an engine update. And as a result of that, the last 3 releases have had to be followed up with subsequent patches or Re-Releases. I'm breaking that cycle with this next release, which means we are going to focus more on constant testing and QC and we will release when we are asset complete, feature complete and fully tested.

I realize this makes for a longer wait for people. We are not going to exclusively hold up any assets though, as evidenced by the public release of completed materials that will be integrated (nuSath, nuMedusa, etc), so you'll still get the fun stuff Assets wise as it happens.

In short, with what is available, if we go for a "do it right now" with just whatever we happen to have, we're just going to keep having the same problems we have had before. I'd rather we take the more professional approach of "the biggest release ever" and make sure it is a solid product.

I appreciate the enthusiasm and I appreciate that people are looking forward to the next release, as it certainly deserves being looked forward to.

Incidentally: Hades hit the nail square on the head. Additionally incidentally: I see one. more. person. that does not have an FSU badge saying what the FSU will be doing next, I will head asplode.

Out of curiosity, and including the latest high-poly models that have been released, what additions and/or features can we definitely expect in the next version of FSO/MVPs? (3.6.13/3.6.14/3.7, whatever it will be called) Most of what I hear is upcoming is either vaguely detailed or rumored, so it be nice to get a solid idea of the next build.  :doubt:

Hell, if it only fixes that three-year-old texture error on the Ulysses and nothing else, I'll be happy. :p

So, improved shaders, new stuff for beams and pilot code? (Missed those last two). That's pretty great so far. :)

What about the particle trail explosions and soft particles which I believe are still being worked on, or am I wrong?

I think petty much all the stuff you mentioned is code-side, not assets-side.

Well, I did ask about both in the first place, but yeah, that other stuff I guess is all code-side. I can barely imagine what is in store assets side apart from more high-poly models. :/

Yeah, more Terran and Shivan stuff. What about Zods? Not a lot of stuff there apart from the Typhon. They need more love!  :p
