Xplay ran a segment on FS2, mods, and the FS Open installer :)
-
Is it on the net somewhere?
-
Is this the one?

Hmm
too bad they only used retail footage, from the looks of it :P
-
...while they keep talking about the facelift. It's a bit odd and probably a bit confusing for the viewer.
-
They were probably concerned about copyright issues. Showing images without express permission of the owner and stuff. Volition cant claim anymore but the FSOpen crew might so play it safe say their lawyers.
-
It's not like that has stopped any number of other outfits. Oh, and it's not like we're this secret bunch of incommunicado reclusives.
-
They could have asked PC Gamer if we cared about the spread they just ran, or you know, sent us an email or something.
-
I'm going to transfer this to the external. No reason why only the coders should see this. :)
-
 I posted on their forums (http://forums.g4tv.com/showthread.php?p=2682026#post2682026) last year that they should do a piece on FSO. Probably had nothing to do with it but it's still pretty cool.

Oh, and it's not like we're this secret bunch of incommunicado reclusives.
... Oh. :nervous:

You might think that, but apparently, thats what a good bunch of people over on spacebattles.com consider us. also, i think we were considered more hostile and less newbie friendly than stardestroyer.net :p
-
Theres also the probability that they had footage of the old game lying around and couldnt be arsed to record new stuff.

Time for a forum invasion! A friendly one, with kittens and flowers.

i think that there's a fair number of folks both here and over there on SB... i drop by occasionally over there and say hi sometimes.

And as noted here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=77407.msg1545721#msg1545721), the new anti-spambot measures aren't exactly doing wonders for our image in this regard, as effective (and necessary) as they have unquestionably proven to be.
EDIT: revision
-
I'd rather a few mistakes that can be corrected, or an extended duration of approval for account creation than to have a forum rendered completely unusable due to a cascading out break of spam and porn posts, thank you. If other people want to get snobby and snotty with their noses in the air over that, then they can consider themselves lucky that they don't face the same problem.
Image is not everything. And it is far too fluid and reactive and has too many potential possible interpretations to it. I'll settle for the fact that we -work- any day of the week.

Understandable. Tbh I wasn't terribly impressed with the way the community veterans handled FlamingCobra's model request thread, and that's just one of many instances that come to mind. Though personally I think our hospitality has noticeably improved since the HLP administration got GB under control. Don't get me wrong, I liked the guy, but sometimes I think people here just go too far. Like I probably have with this rant. :nono:
-
However scary HLP might be, stardestroyer.net might be the least newbie-friendly forum ever. It makes Something Awful look gentle and unintimidating by comparison. It's so scary I've lurked there for six years and never posted.
-
Well then, you admittedly probably have a better basis than me to compare HLP with said site, because I've never been able to stay in their forums more than five minutes due to the obnoxiously flashy sigs and avatars. :p

I think SDN's cooled off somewhat in recent years. It's not the forum it used to be, though the News&Politics section is still a flamepit. If you're not a complete dick or a complete idiot, and you don't break the rules, you won't get mocked (much).
How the hell HLP got considered less newbie friendly than SDN, though, I admit I'll never understand.
-
I've in no way, shape or form contributed to the SCP or FSO.
But when you all get fangirl groupie *****es, can ihas some?
-
Given your talents, I think we'll be asking you to provide them :P

this has been a few years ago you realise :p
i havent been really active on SB for at least 2-3 years now.
oh but the riots that used to be there in the SB vs debates subforums....
HLP has arguably been in a bit of a worse state a few years ago then it is now. an0n and the ilk are the first that come to mind.
Also, mind you, there hasnt been the level of helpfulness and civility in FSO support back then. JeffVader and The E werent yet fully active there that way if memory serves.

You need to crave it, hound it, and persue it at every oppertunity.
Then this happens

:eek2:
Write a tutorial and put it on the wiki.

It's easier than UV Mapping. All you need is patience and a believable fake laugh.
