Im making a full uncommented 1080p walktrought of FS2 on insane difficulty, this is one of the videos of that walktrought, funny thing is... Hinton still there, it never got the "order" to move to the next waypoint lol...
After a lot of times ive replayed this mission, it its nearly impossible to complete on insane because of the AI not helping you at all with the astorids, and you cant give orders to them.
Finally i got this mission complety because of the Hinton bug, causing the vasudans to arrive too far from the Iceni on a perfect position for the Iceni beams :P

I have 786GB of uncompressed videos i need to compress, join and upload to youtube :P

You were promoted by the GTVA, and yet you were off with the NTF...
-
That's the Special Operations Command for you.
-
Promoted for destoying the Hinton lol!
-
That's 706GB of videos my HDD can't hold.... I hate when the Hinton gets near the jump gate with 1% and gets hit by a small asteroid...

Oh my god I know right?
-
Well, I remember the Iceni was at exactly 1% hull integrity when it left. ****ing asteroids are actually THAT deadly...
-
...and then it collides with an asteroid while it is entering the subspace wrap...survives...
*actually I think the asteroid field finishes before then, but wth... ;)
-
What was even worse was when the Iceni and Hinton decided to arrive at the jump node at the exact same moment...and then spend the next two minutes colliding with each other while attempting to occupy the same exact space. I know I lost the Hinton that way once.
-
Same for me on one occasion.
-
Nothing interesting ever happens for me on these missions!
-
You're lucky then. :P
It's aggrivating having to restart a mission unnecessairly (More than once at that) because of nonsense that shouldn't even be happening.
-
Well it does make the gameplay more dynamic wouldn't you agree?
As for all those videos to compress, what are you using to compress them?
-
still this mission is, by far, the hardest on Insane difficulty, it its almost impossible.
On that video i was able to complete it beause of the Hinton remained there, whiout doing anything, causing Sobek to jump in too far and in a perfect position for the Iceni beams, still it jumped out with only 2%, Insane and no being able to give orders to the AI is not good, also, the AI doest help yo with the asteroids and there are too many of them.
I have to say, FS2 changes a lot the gameplay on Insane difficulty.
-
I head a story once about the Iceni T-boning the Hinton during warpout.
-
Funnily enough...
this mission has never bugged for me.
the hinton and iceni always behave fine.

First off i was using Super video converter, but when joining the parts for some strange reason i lost audio, after searching a lot i end up using a program called
"Free AVI MPEG WMV MP4 FLV Video Joiner", i can drop all the uncompressed video parts from fraps in there, it end with a single compressed video.
The bad thing is i cant get any more than 4200kbps on "Full HD 1080p H264/AVC", is enoght for normal missions but the videos lost quality on nebula missions.
-
I would recommend trying Adobe Premiere. It's got excellent compressing options (even ones specific to youtube and vimeo) while maintaining decent quality

Always? I thought it was pretty much accepted that if, by some chance, the Hinton survives to the end of the mission, it'll end up getting clobbered by the Iceni on the way out - this is because of the waypoint paths for both being too close. This has always been the case for me if the Hinton survived - the Iceni rams it on the way out.
This data is substantiated by Wiki documentation (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Rebels_%26_Renegades).

I use Virtual Dub with the xvid codec, save as avi, seems to be ok...that "Free Studio Manager" thing I have I think has less options than VDub in terms of quality, but probably has .mp4 output, idk, I haven't used it much... ;)

That's strange - while keeping the Hinton alive isn't an easy task, even on the lower difficulties, I had at least several instances (both in retail and in various versions of FSO) that it successfully warped out, without the Iceni ever ramming it.

I thought Insanity was the unedited gameplay, with things being made progressively easier (extra armor for the player and stuff) once you hit the lower ones.
Although I do recall some missions only give you medals or have extra opponent wings on higher difficulties.
-
About the medals, this was the case only in FS1. FS2, IIRC, does have extra wings on higher difficulties.
-
there were 2 medals that you had to be on medium or higher to get in FS1. you can get them all on very easy in FS2.
