Yup, its another best thing in games thread!!! :D
So what game does in your opinion have the best music ever.
I'd have to say, its a tie between Emperor - Battle for Dune and No One Lives Forever (which is one of the best games of all time, anyhow.)
here's a track from E:BFD
Ride the Worm (//ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/emperor/previews/audio/WormSamp.mp3)
-
E:BFD was basically just C&C in 3D, but, yea, it had good music.
My favorites were probably Re-Volt and FS2.
-
umm... whats re-volt? Never heard of it.
-
I would have to say that the music from COmmand & Conquer series are the best so far. The music are like heavy metal to techno. They seem to bring excitement and action to the games.
Don't ask me why but most people tend to associate heavy metal and rock and techno music with the army. Even here in Singapore.:)
-
Well, FS2 has pretty good music, and so does Doom/Doom 2, and some Tiberian Sun musics are pretty good, too. It's a hard decision, and not to forget the Star Wars musics in JKII.
-
Oh yeah. I forgot one other game music. Imperial March music that comes on whenever an Imperial strike force of maybe an Imperial-class Star Destroyer pops out of hyperspace in X-Wing Alliance. Wgenever I hear that music being played, I start to go like "Oh no, here we go again".:)
-
Re-Volt=Funny racing game, awesome music
-
OK since we are talking about music, where can I find some good ambiental music taht would fit well in Freespace 2. Which authors are good? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
-
The best music? Here`s a little list:
1: Outcast (the best gaming music. ever. period. Why has no one mentioned this earlier?)
2: Homeworld (Again great music, my favuorite: Adaigo for Strings)
3: Freespace 2 (might sound strange, but really, the music wasnt bad. It sure set the right atmosphere).
There is more, but these 3 are my favourites.
Stargazer.
-
Than you'll be sad to hear that Outcast 2 may be canned.
The music from JKII is the music from the original trilogy... but its use is awesome.
FS music is great too
Deus Ex has several good themes also
And the debriefing (Crayven side) of Ground Control simply rocks...
-
err...
No One Lives Forever
FreeSpace2
Deus Ex
Final Fantasy 7/6/8
Chrono Trigger/Cross
Red Alert 2
American McGee's Alice
for example
-
Metal Vengance (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/tap/downloads/Metal Vengeance.mp3) from Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries
-
Actually, I think the best music so far is Act On Instinct from the very first Command & Conquer.:)
You can actually find the MP3 on AudioGalaxy.
-
Mmm...
Most of the game music I hear sucks. I'd have to say, then, that it's a tie between Syndicate on hi-fi (just because I like it, not because it's particularly good), FreeSpace, if you don't listen to it ingame (you don't hear it too well, and it's a lot better out of the game than in), and TMP (Bwaat da waah waah waah wah-wah-wah wah, WAH WAAAH whom! :D )
Homeworld I just got, so I can't say much abouyt it until I install it.
-
Unreal the origional had the best music :)

Let's see.
Any star wars game with Williams score.
Outcast
Full Throttle (There's a sequel in the works   )
Sacrifice wasn't all that bad.
Wing commander, well in the cinematics anyway.
AvP 2 iirc
NOLF
That's all I can think of now.
SOF II's music isn't all that bad either.
-
Most of my favorites appear in the following:
Deus Ex
Freespace
Freespace 2
Unreal
I also like some others, such a few of the "action" samples from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, the Ground Control briefings, track 7 on the Descent 2 Vertigo CD, and a couple others. ;)
To tell the truth, the only reason I like the concept of music in the first place is because of these great game soundtracks; I'm not into popular music at all. :p :D
And the debriefing (Crayven side) of Ground Control simply rocks...
I don't think I have heard the debriefing one, but both the Crayven and the Order briefing musics are fantastic in my opinion. In fact, I put a section of the Order one into my FS2 campaign as a briefing music. :D
Actually, I think the best music so far is Act On Instinct from the very first Command & Conquer.
I remember that one; it was pretty nice too. My favorite in that game was "In the Line of Fire." ;)
-
Total Annihilation music simply rules! Perhaps I should exctact one track from the CD and upload it, it's simply too great to miss.
MOHAA had good music too.
-
Ah, some of those TA tracks were also quite nice. ;)

Yeah, especially MOHAA
-
FS2 (The music is original and sets the tone, nice pacing, etc.)
TIE Fighter (Wow, John Williams wrote an *original* MIDI score for it. Now why didn't he write original music for Episode I? ;) )
Planescape Torment (Very cinematic and once again gives a good feel)
-
I like "A kiss to build a Dream on" thats on the Fallout 2 intro movie.
-
I am thinking of putting that D2 one I mentioned earlier into an ingame FS2 music as it seems to have the right kind of atmospheric effect in my opinion, but I have not quite decided whether it is worth the trouble of splitting it up and all that. :p
-
Forgot to mention playing Soul Asylum at 80Db over the FS2 music tracks.:D
-
Track 6 off the descent2 CD rocked...very atmospheric.
Particularly "surfacing" and the title theme played at the end of unreal really got me. Those two tracks were beautiful. Other good tracks were "industrial" off C&C 1.
-
omfg.. I forgot Omikron... **** game, but it has cool music... David Bowie :p
-

YES DO IT!!! DO IT!!! *drools*
-
Destruction Derby 2 had quite appropriate music.
Railroad Tycoon 2 also had good music, some nice blues stuff.
Freespace is clever how it plays different music depending on events in the game, but it could fade them together a bit more subtly.
pete
-
The dynamics in Freespace are nothing special really. Again I must mention NOLF, and most of all TIE Fighter. Now that was dynamics.
-
Descent 3
FS 1/2
IW2 with the jukebox mod
-
Mmmmm...I loved the FS2 music the way it was good and would change. It got really spooky and subtle at times when something was about to happen and got me wondering "What the hell is coming?"
And John Williams rules. Duel of the Fates. Nuff said. :D
-
FreeSpace2 Ending Score (or the FreeSpace 1 March Battle battle and victory music)
Homeworld Background music
-

My mom hates "Duel of the Fates". When I asked her why, she simply said because the music is the start of the battle where Qui-Gonn Jinn is killed. She hates to see good guys get killed.:D
-
She hates to see good guys get killed.:D
LOL, I like to see the good guys die but not the bad guys; I'm tired of the good guys winning all the time. :p :D :D

You must be of the Dark side. To bring balance to the Force, I have no choice but to do this.

Here's an example of Total Annihilation music, its 4 megs, but definitely worth the hearing Clickety (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/tap/downloads/totala.zip)
-
that IS cool, man. I suddenly feel the urge of.... i dunno.
[edit] now it's a tie between E:BFD, NOLF and TA. Although I've never played TA.
But I'd buy that just for the music.
-
Man, I loved Total Anihilation! I was so shocked at how good the music was!
Anyway, I also love the music in The Dig, Tie Fighter, Freespace 1&2 and MOHAA. Most of the time I just love orchestral music!
-
Just for people to hear, heres one of my favorite pieces of music from MOHAA. Its really good! :D
Click me! (http://personal.inet.fi/cool/toons/mus_aircraftfacility.mp3)
-
My favorites in MOHAA are probably the Africa and the Schmerzen ones. ;)

You may have a lightsaber, but I have the force! ;7 :D
-
Star Wars music. ;7
Edit: Battlezone II, good game, bad musics. :D

Well, I have both lightsaber and the Force. :p
No really, good guys do indeed win too often, and it shouldn't be so. At least when they win without losses.
-
Meh. TMP Eurasian marching beats sound about as good in FS, so there.:p
Can't say that about your "atmospheric" music files.
http://www.wpierce.com/wlp/mrch.mp3
-
oh, another good one is Aliens vs. Predator. Really fits in with the mood. can't say about AVP2 though, haven't played it.
-
I find some decent techno tracks coupled with classical make the best music for games (i despise the Nu metal "revolution").
Take for instance FS2, any other music wouldnt make you feel pumped BUT fit the atmosphere at the same time.
Take System Shock 2's Command A theme, a banging peace of D&B really fires you up.
As for newer games, i felt Halo had a V. good soundtrack (dig those gregorian monks baby)

I am loading it down. :D

anyone play the kayak extreme demo. Rubbish game but absolutly amazing music. I deleted the game but kept the music on my hard drive to play in other games with crap music!
-

Thanks in advance.
http://www.eve-online.com/ - Download some of the Ambient Tracks from this game. Very ambient, each is about 4-6 minutes in length.
-
System Shock 2. It should be a damned soundtrack CD. I'd buy it. No other game comes close to the atmospheric intensity of Shock2's stuff.
For those who haven't listened, search out 'Bart Klepka' and listen to his remixes.
-
bah, to hell with the force, I have a tac nuke!!!
on music, I liked tib sun and starcraft musics
-
Oh yeah, Starcraft. Good music.
And flame me, but I liked the soundtrack of Call to Power 2. I thought it just sounded kinda cool. Pretty natural sounding stuff, but cool nonetheless.
-
American McGee's
Alice
has the best music of any game I've heard. It's childish, happy, Victorian music, xylophones, harpsichords and such, but darkly twisted with a female chorus and bass strings. It was done by Chriss Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails... mmm, I love it. There's one track that literally made me cry when I heard it.
-
cry...
uhuh... Could we get a sample?
-
I can't believe no one has mentioned Metal Gear Solid 2! Now THAT was some excellent music. Right on par with John Williams.
-
Yeah, MGS2 had good music in it. But what do you expect from someone who's co-written music from THE ROCK? What I'm waiting for is something Zimmerish (Hans Zimmer) in games! Like when I play Cossacks, I turn off the ingame music and pop in the Gladiator soundtrack! I just love the battle music when you have thousands of troops just marching into each other, or hundreds of ships in a vast sea battle! Aaah...
-
what was that other SShock track...
on the first game, in the opening cinematic?
That tech track rocked!
oh...any scapers here would to well to check out "gammak Bass" - some pretty friggen good electronic traks based of Farscape ! :)
-
Let me post that D2 vertigo one here; alongside the FS2_Brief_4 track, this is my all-time favorite. ;)
bah, to hell with the force, I have a tac nuke!!!
yeah! :D
-
Right peeps,
http://www.ttlg.com/other/jukebox/main.htm
OMG all TTLG music for all their games rock (especially the intro for SS1 and Command 2 shuttle bays
( http://thief1.math.uh.edu/thief/jukebox/ss2/command2.mp3 )
As for those remixes, OMG Doom Gate (on speed) DOOM MIDI REMIX = teh winnar1!1
http://bart.overclocked.org
Bart rocks!

Total Annihilation music simply rules! Perhaps I should exctact one track from the CD and upload it, it's simply too great to miss.
MOHAA had good music too.

Five years, half a month. That qualify for biggest bump on HLP or have we done better?
Seriously mate, why would you post in a thread that would have taken at least 10 minutes flip back to? What the hell, man?!

Just thought I'd be helpful. :D

:necro:
Here's some advice: If it's not on the first page, don't post in it.
-
Come on people, the classic Super Mario Bros. music! Don't forget about the legendary Hell March. The music from the C&C games, FS1/2, Mario, MGS, SC, and a few from HL2 were good too.
-

I want that beam :D
Oh, and Babylon 5.

It may be in second place. We had someone bump a thread from early 2001 not too long ago. :p I think it was redmenace.
-
I have the Halo soundtrack
/the shame/
-
IMHO, this is one topic that deserves to be bumped. If it's a good subject that hasn't been brought up in the intervening timespan, why is it a crime to bump it?
-
The person who bumps it should at least include the :bump: smiley and an explanation.
-
Outcast had great mucis...BG2 also...FS1&2....
-
Come on, guys, let's not forget Pokemon! The Surfing Theme! DOOO dooo doo DOO dooo, DOOOO doo DO.... do DOO DOOOOO! The Pokemon Center Theme! Doooo doo doo DO dooo doo doo dooooooo! Uh... Team Rocket? Dooooo DOOOOOOOO nah nah NAH, nah nah NAH, nah nah NAH NAH nah nah nah nah NAH nah nah nah nah nah nah nah Doodooodooodoot! Doodooodooodooodooodooot! Dah, dah, dah DAH DAAH DAH dah dah, dah dah DAH DAH!
Seriously though, not a lot of games have exactly thrilling soundtracks, and FS2 is no exception. The battle songs in FS2 are great for background music, and that's about it.
-
Descent (redbook)
Halo 1/2
FS 1/2
HL 2 had its moments
Ace combat 4 and up
DooM (2 and 3 excluded)
In no particular order.
-
Well, since this thread is back; Tyrain.
-
FS2, J Jackrabbit 2 and AoE.
-
My god! A five year bump, man, dont you have a life?
The God of War (1 and 2) musical score is one of the best ones that I've seen lately, specially that of GoW 2. Its downright epic.
-
Shadow of the Colossus
Metroid 3 & Prime
FF6
Chrono Trigger
Metal Gear Solid (2) (3)
Beyond Good & Evil
Ocarina of Time
Mechwarrior 2 and its expansions
Deus Ex
off the top of my head.
-
Total Annihilation has, quite simply, the best soundtrack of any game i have ever played. Many come close, but gawd DAMN. I listen to "Warpath" and i can just SEE my giant horde of 2000 tanks smashing their defenses to pieces. Simply superb.
Now, my list of all the other best musics:
2. Freelancer
3. Metroid Prime 1/2
4. Descent 3
5. Final Fantasy 3/7
6. Halo
7. Freespace 2
8. HL2
9. I know i missed something
-
How many of you have played Rake In Grass's Jets'n'Guns?
There is a soundtrack which indeed supports the game quite well. Actually, it's available in Machine Supremacy's homepage.
-
Here's few of my favorites in no particular order....
Command Conquer Series
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX
Donkey Kong Country
Starfox Adventures
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Sonic the Hedgehog 1,2,3
Megaman 1-6
Battle of Olympus (Really old 8-bit nes game, but it still has a special place)
Yup, older games still rock!
-
Speaking of NES, Journey to Silius comes to mind. Probably the best NES soundtrack I ever heard. It is a shame no-one knows about this game. Was originally meant to be a Terminator game but they lost the license.
Falcon 3 MIDs also have their moment, along with Descent I.
-
Speaking of NES, Journey to Silius comes to mind.
Hey, thanks Mika. I've been trying to remember the name of that game for the longest time. I always thought it as the "Journey to siRius", no wonder I never found any info on it. :P
