Title: Evolution I: The Andvari Conflict
Post by: NeonShivan on September 15, 2011, 06:34:45 pm
First of all this is still the same campaign as the one I'v posted months ago this is just an update. I would of updated the old one but the old post is...old. So heres a new forum post. Due to my older version being very dissapointing to me Im re-working it (again..yippy) with more HTL models compared to the last one. Some of those models involved the long and forgotten Zagreus which replaces the Atropos as the UTS' main destroyer.

and some new ships such as the also old and forgotten and now REFIRBISHED Sagi!

The Campaign's plotline remains the same however this version goes more indept with the Andvari Conflict compared to the last one. There is also no more blob turrets (well, they're still here just not the only weapon)

I also wish to introduce a new and unique Andvari cruiser. Used during the first decade of their empire's founding this 500+ year old cruiser serves the empire well. (Retextured Malia from the ASW Campaign)

Anyways, any comments or mission ideas may be shared below. Please I would love to hear what you think.

Hmmm, looking good!

Anyway though, time for a bit of constructive criticism.

The Zagreus, in your first screenshot, has the engine glow effect clipping through the back of the ship - although the fix for this is easy enough. The thruster just needs moved back a bit in PCS II. Also, a shine map could improve the textural look of the Zagreus.

In the second screenshot, a higher-quality weapon trail effect could help quite a bit.

I can help you out with these if you want. Hit me up the next time you see me on Xfire.

I've been helping BTA out on Xfire from time to time, primarily with mod assets.

This is true. I dont take any credit for the Vasudan Cruiser and some of the assets used in this mod.

In game testing never showed this glitch. Plus its most likely a texture glitch involving my computer only.

Gonna need to talk to ASW about using their weapons first.

Are you using auto-centering maybe in PCS2?

You don't seem to be using normal maps, so either you have them disabled, or are using old textures. If it's the latter, it needs fixing. Also, the Zagreus is low poly (there's a HTL version around somewhere).

I was put to believe that Dawn of Sol had the HTL version. Hense the POF name "ZagreusHTL.pof". Personaly I cant really tell the difference.

From the ribbing, that is clearly the HTL zagreus
Why the turrets look like ****, I don't know.

I can help BTA import some better-looking turrets.

Also, you can get trails from a lot of places. They're pretty easy to make in Photoshop, and if you don't have it, I hear there are some free alternatives available. Heck, with the right plugin, you can even open, edit, and save .dds files from photoshop.

If you just really, really like one of the ASW trails, I don't think the ASW team will mind if you use it, so long as you give them proper credit for it. In fact, credit for the third-screenshot cruiser model goes to the ASW team; all I did was the reskin.

BTA, we need to get you some PCS 2. Reskins are easy and fun! Which person was it that has the link to PCS 2 in their signature?

Spicious, I think.

You should actually be looking for this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=77292.0), as it was made specifically to avoid searching around for Spicious' posts. Besides, Spicious doesn't have a signature any more, so it's the only link you've got ;)

I know I just forgot to mention it in the above post.

That's not the point.
My point is that there is a "complete" version with LODs and Debris and better looking turrets, and I am very concerned why the old unfinished version is swimming about.

One question, how are you taking these screenshots? Because whatever you're doing to convert them to jpg, it really messes with the colour depth of the pictures, making them horribly ugly. Also, the compression artefacts are eeew.

If you hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard during gameplay, it will take a screenshot in tga format, which you can then convert to png using paint.net or gimp or whatever. You can then upload those screenies, which will definitely look better than whatever XFire is serving up.

Starfield.pof is there, it just looks different then in current mediavps (possibly a version from 3.6.9).

Actualy my digital effects were dumbed down a bit due to preformance issues. Its from 3.6.12 dont worry.

That my friend is from the Earth Defense mod pack release. Thank them for such a kickass picture.

These screenies (except the first 1) were taken from a test mission. (The first 1, behind Diomedes Fortress theres no nebulas. Elsewhere there is. Sirius isnt a system known for its nebulae) So dont worry I will use nebulaes

This is possibly the most amount of nebulae you'll see in the Sirius System. However, due to the proximity of the Crab Nebula node to the Sirius A and B star formation you will see the Vidar Magnetic Cloud. This cloud causes long range communication issues and even sensor disruption if you have a mission near the orbit of Sirius I. (This is just a little fun fact about the Sirius System :P)
