I'm getting this error. Just yesterday it worked fine. I used the installer and installed and updated. It didn't help, instead it added a few lines in this error message.

You are running some mod (it would have been polite to mention that) which does not use tbm's for music stuff and as such doesn't get along with the current MediaVPs. Download this file (http://koti.mbnet.fi/reiler/FunkyFreeSpaceStuff/715517patch.vp) and put it into the mod folder.

Sorry. But I get this (below) which looks identical when I run it at "No Mod". And choosing other mods gives the same.
I don't have a mods folder as well. All Campaign mods are supposed to be in the root Freespace2 folder

Couldn't agree more. But the mv_music-mus.tbm error in your first post only occurs when a mod that doesn't have a mv_music-mus.tbm is used with the 3.6.12 MediaVPs.
Anyways, you're running a debug build apparently, so could you also post your fs2_open.log (from your \freespace2\data folder)?
-
Attached the file to the reply.
I just used the debug build recently because of the error. I was trying to change settings to see if it helped. So I don't know if the log will help you but there it is.

This is wrong. Very very wrong. No wonder the game broke, given that you used the old, unsupported, not recommended to be used, really really bad Inferno release.
Which you should not use. In order to fix the game, these files need to be deleted, or moved to a mod folder.
Being where they are now will break most mods, not to mention the original game. Oh, abd any further issues with the old Inferno mod should be discussed in the Inferno board.
-
715517patch.vp file I put there cuz it was the file you gave me. I just tested it to see what happened. No difference tho. But ok, that one is deleted.
INF_Main.vp is deleted as well.
It is now working. Ty :)
I have no Idea why the INF_Main.vp file ended up there. Just yesterday I played with no problem. I had installed Wing Commander Saga on a different folder since it's Standalone, that's the major change I've done. It is removed now tho.

I guess the latest bit of that phrase was not necessary?
EDIT: Seriously, stopping at "not recommended to be used" would have been enough IMO. Nothing personal, just pointing it out as it's nobody's fault to see INF alive after a decade and one of its released mods still in circulation. Compatibility issues may occur, and they're fairly common I may add, but to be honest I don't understand this "I wish INFR1 never happened" approach. And I hope I got it wrong.
-
No. I stand by that phrase, as it accurately represents my feelings about the old Inferno release, its never-to-be-sufficiently-damned installer, its low-quality visual assets and general pre-FSO bugginess.
EDIT: Note that I have never said "I wish it hadn't been released". That's you putting words into my mouth, something I do not take kindly to under the best of circumstances. It's just that, as long as there is no updated release that fixes these issues, things like this will happen again and again, as you should know.
-
so what release should we use?
-
My advice is to wait for the upcoming release.
And Mobius, why did you have to provoke Ebenezer Scrooge regarding the old Inf release? If he wants to rant, then give him a corner or him to do so, but do not provoke him, lest you want to start a flame war like last time that warranted the thread to be closed.

EDIT: Whatever. The E can contact me in private if he wants to discuss the matter and listen to a couple of suggestions on how to handle TS for INFR1.

Just as a heads-up for the FS Community:
We currently do not support the original Inferno release. So given all the errors people have been experiencing over the years, please install at your own risk.
The new standalone Inferno will be released very soon; please be patient and wait.
Admin, please kindly close this thread to prevent spamming.
Thanks,

INFR1 was only patched up to work on FSOpen 3.5.5 which was many years ago. It's not designed to work with any mediavps and now that the mediavps changed all the tilemap filenames they would provide no enhancement to the Inferno ships and so wouldn't help it look better. In fact it'll make some things look worse since some maps that do work might be right next to one that doesn't on a single ship.
For anyone who has issues if you're using the FSOpen installer and it's giving errors you should try and contact whoever is in charge of that to see if they can fix the installer version, since we have no control over that version. If you are just using our R1 VPs seperately then I'd advise using the R1SCP patch and no media vps though this hasn't been tested with more modern builds.
R1U and R2 won't have this problem as it's standalone and has been designed for easy patching if we do find any issues after release so sit tight for that :)
