Hi! What is this and how do I fix it? It occurs when I try to load any mission.

What build are you using? Does this occur using the latest nightly?

Oh, and can you post an fs2_open.log?

This sort of memory management bug happened all the time when using the 3.6.12 final source code.

Nightlies, particular recent ones (last 3 months) have most of that type of error fixed. Hopefully most.

The problem started when I began trying to import my Sathanas into the game. I began getting errors about the mission loadout and all sorts of things I've never noticed before.

This is from the file labeled fs2_open.log. It's very big.

To translate Jeff-ese, you pretty much never want to install a game, or at least FS2_Open, to your Documents folder.  Even putting it in Program Files can cause issues in Vista/7.  To be safe, it's generally recommended to install the game to its default path, C:\Games\FreeSpace2.  That may not have anything to do with this problem, but it'll probably save you some headaches down the road.

Weird, I've never had problems with running programs out of the documents folder before. I've changed the directory, but I'm still getting an error message. I've also downloaded the latest nightly build.

No, it seems a different crash occurs. Without the mediavps I can't get to the mainhall without crashing.

Try with a new (not cloned) pilot.

Try and moved FS2OGGcutscenepack.vp, multi-mission-pack.vp, multi-voice-pack.vp out side of C:\Freespace2\

Failing that, move the entire contents of the <root>/data/ folder into a folder outside of C:\Freespace2\. Post a log after moving the contents of the folder if it still doesn't work.

Okay, so I tried making a new pilot, and there was no change. Moved the vp's outside the freespace folder, nothing changed. Completely removed the data folder, and now I can no longer make a new pilot, or see my old ones. It crashes immediately, even after I move the old data folder back.
