Requesting the option to export screenshot directly to .png, .jpg, or .bmp files. Converting .tga files to other formats consumes time and is a total pain. Besides, the wiki doesn't even support .tga in the first place.
-
Just download PaintNET and save screenshots as everything you want by a few clicks. It can't be easier and faster. Engine shouldn't be cluttered by lots of unusable features. If you really hate exporting files, request someone to write a simple script. I'm not a coder, but it's seems to be not so hard.

From what I heard, it will happen at some point. Until then, blame websites for not supporting what is a pretty standard image format.
-
See..... I USED to have paint.net
but then I got Paint Shop Pro. Which suffers from unrealistic loading times.
-
I know Irfanview is supposed to be a good lightweight image converter, if you're looking for one.
-
PSP is a powerful image editor with conversion functionality. Irfanview is an image covertor. Get it (it's free), and loading times cease to be an issue.
-
Infranview also has some basic image editing settings as well, which I've actually used on occasion.

I didn't think PSP could somehow prevent you from using Paint.NET.
-
I think the point is that PSP can do everything Paint.NET can do, albeit while costing money compared to the free Paint.NET. But there's nothing I used to do with PSP that I can't do with Paint.NET or IrFanView.

IrfanView. It also has a Batch processing functionality, so you can convert tons of thingies at the same time too. OMG!
-
I just use GIMP. Never had any issue. But the other softs mentioned will probably work just as well too.
-
pumping screenshots in PNG by default instead of TGA might be a good idea, right?
PNGs are still lossless and are (generally) smaller, and are accepted on most web hosting sites. I don't understand why it spits out TGAs at all, except if for some reason exporting TGAs doesn't require any libraries, whereas anything else does.
-
At some point, we will switch the screenshot dumping to use png. However, this will probably not be in 3.6.14.
-
PNG > all other formats
(excluding formats that support multiple raster layers so you can edit it later)
Anyway, I keep hearing a lot of stuff about 3.6.14, which will supposedly be released "any day now"
Is 3.6.14 supposed to be like.... the new "Latest Official Release"?
like..... better than 3.6.12?
and will any of these "new features" be removed in 3.6.14? because for me fs2_open_3_6_13r_INF-20110930_r7831 runs slower than fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF, especially when nearby capships explode and the like.

PNG > all other formats
Thank you for this enlightening bit of information. Why, we never thought that could be the case. You learn something new every day, it seems.

Except that, for the vast majority of people (that is, those among us with functional GPUs and updated drivers), the current development builds are orders of magnitude faster, way more stable, have lots more functions, and are generally more awesome. If it's slower than .12, that can have a few possible causes. 1) Insufficient GPU power, 2) Related to 1), using the MV_Advanced packages on a system not fast enough to handle it, 3) Insufficiently powerful CPU (Although a Core 2 and up should be Ok, generally speaking).
