Title: Presenting the GVCv Amset
Post by: karajorma on May 28, 2002, 07:57:55 am
The ship is in need of heavy re-texturing (the ones on it are just to give impression that it is a vasudan ship). Any suggestions on how to improve it are welcome.

NICE, NICE, NICE:yes:

The ends looks a bit too brickish (the engines)!

TrashMan is right, the engines are a bit too blocky. The overall should be more curved as well, to give a more Vasudanish look.

I`ll get to work on that. The ship was originally going to be a terran ship but as soon as I stuck that vasudan tile on it I decided that it was much better as a vasudan ship :)

i think it looks more shivan than vasudan. Vasudan ships tend to be more rounder or organic if you will.

Needs to be more round, not just th eengines but the main body too.  Look at the mentu and sobek, they have very smooth curves.

But has potential otherwise.

Hmmm Having a little trouble with the smoothing. Is the smooth  Quad divide the best way to smooth the model? It does look better after I do that but the polycount skyrockets. I`m using truespace4

Anyway here's a pic to show what it looks like after one pass with the smoothing

How big is it compared to a Sobek?  It looks gigantic.  On the recomendations...

1.  Try giving the top of the main hull a smooth shell with some structures on the underside.

2.  Similarly, the top engines need to be rounded over, possibly the portions above the 'grates' in to a shape similar to the modification to the main hull.  Also the overall size of the engines needs to reduced as they overpower the major portion of the ship.  Keep in mind that the Vasudans are very advanced when it comes to engine design, so their ships generally have smaller engine pods.

3.  The 'engines' on the underside a kind of... big.  Consider changing them to docking bays.  This kind of forces the ship as a whole in to the 'Frigate' class like the Iceni but as the ship just looks big this would proably be for the best.

On the whole of it looks good.

avoid quad divide when possible - it has a way of creating non-planer faces (= bad geometry) from flat ones.

As for the ship, I'm not feeling the vasudan design.  You could turn it into a hybrid ship of some kind (joint force, terran & vasudan), because the engines and the spine ridge both look extremely terran.

Great models ... U only need to fix textures on engines... and make a difrant texture for hull on engine parts...
BTW... I can do that for you if you want...
And Unkow... if u read this... I textured that fighter... And i realised, that thrusters would be bad to put on em... use only engine glows :)!!!

Edit: Ok, i c u fixed the engines... u still need to make a bit difrant texture for the hull on the engines... maybe some stuff added... and those bricks needs to be the samed size everywhere... :D

Another edit:D: Nothing wrong with textures exept that they are stretch on a wierd way :(

It can be GTVCv :) terrand and vasudans could make it togeder... anyway, i'm sick of caps... so make this a corvette!!

Great model :D , only wish I could make stuff that good in Truespace, but then I'm using version 1.
Anyway, I think it looks more like a dangerously oversized fighter than a corvette.

That would actually fit in VERY well with my campaign actually. ;7

While I`m at it I might as well get some comments on this ship. Again the textures are just temporary (even more so in this case).
The ship has the temporary designation as the GTC Styx but that might change. I might also decide to make it a corvette instead too :)

Edit: Hmmm I`ll have to do something about those turrets too :)

I like this ship mcuh better! but not from the top view, the first shot looks WELL cool! but the top view looks too short (could be the image) the front view is good but it needs more barrel turrets all along the top!!!! and I think the turret design is 'ok' (boxes with long boxes for barrels don't appel to me) but the barrels need to be thinker and longer and point up! 45 degree turrets are SO annoying! AARRRR!!! Thats was my only complaint about the Aloues (you know what Im talking about)!

I've read that 45 degree turrets seem to cause problems in mods so I`m going to ditch them :)

I wonder how [V] Got them to work on the Aeolus :)

3ds Max r1.2 for Fs1 & 2, IIRC.  Look at the interviews at  Volitionwatch.

using 3ds max, 45 degree turrets are easy. The problem with the ones in truespace is that the little box thing around it (turret01, surrounding turret01a) molds to the shape of the object....fs2 doesn't like that...mind you, this is all imo.
