This is an idea I have thought about on and off, but I think it's good enough to share. The modding board is a very crowded board that moves quite quickly. I often see hard modeling work get overshadowed by tabling questions and other general mod discussion. It's possible for for work to be buried to the 2nd page of the board on an active week. Others have complained about difficulties with finding things on the modding board, so how about we split it into two separate boards?
The modding board seems to serve two main purposes:
1. To announce and release non-fsu related modeling work
2. To serve as a tutorial thread for modding much like how the FREDing board works for fred
So the idea is this:
1. Make a separate modeling board and split all model related threads into it. I believe this thread will make things easier for modders who are 'shoping' for user related assets as well as provide a thread which serves a more specific purpose.
2. Leave the rest of the modding board the way it is. What will be left consists of tutorials related to modding and tabling etc.
Overall I think it will lead to a better organised board where people can find topics more easily.

Suppose, instead, we create a separate Tutorials board, and move all such threads there? It could be a child of the Modding board, or it could be a top-level board where FRED tutorials, etc., are posted too.

Can i throw in a vote to leave it the way it is? Sure, it's a broad forum, but I much prefer HLP's fewer, more general boards to other game modding forums that have dozens of super specific boards, most of which are pretty dead.

True but I can't see the modding board going dead any time soon. A tutorials board might go dead though so I favour Bigchunk's idea. Have one board for modelling and poffing and the other for all other modding.

Eh, I don't really support any further splitting of modding board. Even scripting board seems fairly unnecessary as it doesn't have anywhere near enough activity to warrant its own board IMO. If folks really want another modding board, I would prefer one for releases where people can post up a topic when they release something to the community. This keeps release announcements and discussions separate from general modding discussion.

The scripting board is awesome, a board doesn't need to have new posts every day to be a success. I would not have seen half the scripts if that board wasn't there. It's a good way to keep all those things together. Saying it is unnecessary just based on actvity is short sighted.

Just to throw in my 2c, I agree with Spoon... the whole thing with different boards and child boards is ease of access... to categorize ideas so that they are easy to navigate. If a board is dead, so what? I mean, unless it is a Mod board, then that's bad for them maybe. But if you had separate (for example) PC Hardware / Software boards in Gen Disc and they were dead cause no one needed support, well then, when someone needs help, then they won't be dead now, will they?
The only potential negative impact I can forsee is if people "surf" the boards, only checking the ones marked as "active"... then I could see a request for help or somesuch getting overlooked. But, IDK about everyone else here, I just use "show unread replies", then "show all unread posts since last visit", check what I find interesting, then "mark all posts as read".
Thoughts?
