Title: nVidia GTX 550 Ti
Post by: Dilmah G on October 27, 2011, 01:44:00 am
Hey guys,

Old nVidia GeForce 7600 GS carked it the other day, considering replacing it tonight with the above, has anyone used the card before and have any complaints? This is likely the only upgrade I'm going to be able to make for the PC (as well as an update to 420 W on the power) for the next 9 months (because Dilmah = poor student) so I'd rather not grab a piece of ****. Either way bulk of my non school stuff is FSX stuff to keep competency and FS2 when I get the time. Opinions?

Personally, if you can afford it, I'd go with the GTX 560Ti.  It seems to the current best bang for the buck for NVidia cards, and looks to outperform a 550 by about a 60% margin.

I can watch massive battle with beams and never see it drop below an average of 60+ FPS at 1080P with all the eye candy turned on.  I think the lowest I saw was 55, but that was for a split second.

I see, I don't think the price is too far up from the 550 so I'll look into it. I'm just keen on having any desktop back at this stage, fuarking hate this damn laptop that couldn't run FS98. :P

If you emwant cost effectiveness, go AMD.
