Title: I don't get cutscenes
Post by: mustafa2812 on November 02, 2011, 11:17:01 am
Everything works on my copy of Freespace 2/Open except the cut-scenes or movies or whatever.  What should I do and where are those files??

How did you install FS2? From retail CDs or via GoG?

In your FReeSpace 2 folder, there will be two folders named "data2" and "data3". Copy the contents of these folders into the "data" folder.

Check if there are files of filetype "mve" present.

Make sure all those files are in "data\movies"

We really should try contacting GOG.com to see if they can change that folder arrangement.

I installed the gog.com version of FS2 today and it does create data2 and data3 folders where it puts the mve files as well as some vp files too. But the interesting thing is that FS2 is able to find and load the mve files from there. So my opening cutscene played without issues out of the box.

Hmm, should FSO be told to also check data2 / data3 for the files there?

-- Hello,

Unfortunately there is no possibility to move movie files into a different folder. The way games are arranged is made to work them in a best possible way. What's more please do not follow the suggestions from the unofficial releases, as our games are based on officially  released versions.

Will the retail GOG version find the cutscenes if they are moved to where they originally where in retail? If not then I suggest we make the SCP find them where GOG puts them, after all one of the original aims of the SCP was not to break retail and GOG is the new retail.

Can FSO scan data2 and data3 as if they were data?  I'm just not sure whether not being able to find the other files located there will cause problems for GOG folks... tango & warble .vp files
