Title: Saga has 11000 Lines of Dialogue
Post by: Tolwyn on November 08, 2011, 07:47:25 am
At the heart of fancy space combat action is always a good conversation - last week we got the voice over work done, and it came out fantastic. Wing Commander Saga will feature an incredible number of lines of dialogue recorded: between 10.000 and 11.000, versus Prologue's 700 lines. 11.000 lines of dialog sounds like a lot for a fan project. Voice recording ran for over seven months, amounting to nearly 100.000 words recorded – that’s almost 10 hours of dialogue.

The overall experience was amazing - as were the actors. These guys and gals just nailed it. I'm not going to pretend that my direction helped them - they really didn't need it.

One way in which Saga stands apart from any other Freespace SCP engine based game is the way we handle player's orders: any command issued by Sandman is fully voiced, making the overall gaming experience more immersive.

As a little treat, we're releasing new screenshots (http://www.wcsaga.com/news-archive-2011/saga-has-11000-lines-of-dialogue.html) to go along with this news update. Enjoy!

Ten hours of dialogue.
Well that settles it, WCS is MGS in Space. ;)
Minus Snake characters, paradoxes, Metal Gears, nuclear weapons, super-powered baddies, revolver-wielding gunslingers, cute communications specialists...okay anything relating to MGS at all.

From this alone it sounds less like a FreeSpace mod than it does a full-fledged studio release. Imagine how hard minds would be blown when this is released and you tell people who don't know FreeSpace that this is a TC for that 11-year old game.

Has it occurred to you that you are, perhaps, trying a little too hard here?  :p

Wow that's definitely impressive. I'd be happy with basic spoken dialog for orders and briefings, let alone in-game stuff. Nice work indeed, looking forward to play it, if only to get a lot of good ideas for my own little project ;)

Our latest blog post (http://www.wcsaga.com/news-archive-2011/meet-the-voices-behind-some-of-the-characters-in-wing-commander-saga.html) introduces some of the guys and gals involved in the production (and this is just the tip of the iceberg).

"Sitting atop the list of new voice talent is Sean Crisden as Sandman."
Does that mean the VA that did Sandman in the prologue got replaced? (I personally felt Sandman's voice was by far the weakest performance of them all)

Sort of. Only Ryan Anderson will reprise his role as Ninja.
