Title: Copying old installation directory
Post by: Klaustrophobia on November 12, 2011, 02:24:46 am
Apparantly the BD drive on my new build will not read the FS2 cds.  And according to the manufacturer's website, my model number does not exist, so there is no possiblity of driver/firmware updates fixing the problem.  I do however have a copy of the fs2 install directory from my old build in a backup folder on my current drive.  Can I just copy over the folder, or will that not work because it won't set up registry entries and such?  The old was installed on XP, I now have 7 x64.

No "buy it from GOG" replies please.  I have already purchased and still legally own the game, I'm not buying it again.

You can. The Launcher sets up the registry entries on first run. Though I think you may get some naggings if the file paths in launcher6.ini are not valid on the new computer, in which case deleting that file will help.

Even retail FS2 should work, as evidenced by the HotU version back in the days.

Or instead of deleting the launcher6.ini, you could just open it up and (carefully!) edit the path to reflect it's new home.
