So, Mario. We all remember him from such iconic games as Super Mario Land, Super Mario World, and dozens of other titles with "Super Mario" in the title, and quite a few other Nintendo games that don't.
Now, did you know that the best known plumber in gaming is pro-Fur? Because PETA would like you to know.

Ah ha ha, ah ha ha ah ha ha ha. Ahem.

I saw this headline somewhere, but I was sure that it was fake. Nope.
-
omg mario is a racoon kill3r, now wot i gonna2 my infancy ruin'd! gunna hang mysef, jus a minut.
-
Geez, I wonder if PETA is populated by the same people who said that Columbine happened because of Wolfenstein.
-
Never mind that he stomps on all of those turtles (and as mentioned in the article, gets a frog and a penguin suit in some games). :p
-
PETA shouldjust go and become An Hero. It's the best course of action for all involved, they're just embarrassing themselves now. :doubt:

Just to make this perfectly clear, this is a direct quote from PETA.
tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur.
This is a direct quote from reality.
TANUKI DON'T ACTUALLY EXIST DIP****S
-
IIRC tanuki is the japanese term for raccoon, actually. PETA is still nuts, though.

I stand corrected. Still, nowhere does it mention in mario that the suit does anything more than provide powers reminiscint of the japanese legend.
-
True. The fact that he gains the suit from catching a leaf shows this, as in japanese folklore a leaf is often used as a medium for tranformations or illusions.
OWAIT! Don't tell PETA that, or they'll get on at the japanese for teaching their kids fairytales about creatures torturing trees so that they can not get killed in grissly manners or so have fun!

While it is true there is a real animal called a tanuki, it is actually a canid. However in this case we are referring to the mythological version of tanuki with the giant balls and related attributes it uses as drums (because it's goddamn Mario flying using a suit like it) and as such we can reasonably say it doesn't exist.
Also they're actually more or less sacred to Shinto Buddhism so asserting they're out there getting skinned is like saying Hindus eat hamburgers every day, so even if they don't mean the mythological version they're still goddamn insane.

id be more concerned that mario has gone furry. pervert!
-
The best part about it is that Mario has been wearing that suit since 1988 (not '98, like the article stupidly states). Where was PETA's beef over the past two decades? :D
