Title: Help
Post by: Shadow Puppet on May 31, 2002, 12:17:19 pm
Hey everyone, I'm kind of new at this and am trying to build my own campaign. I was wondering if anyone could give links to tutorials, freeware, or anything else to help me with modelling...

if your new to modeling, you should try the volition watch tutorials... could someone put up a link?

I dunno links, but I do can tell you one thing: If  you want to do a campaign with your own ships and weapons ALONE you'll take more than 1 year :doubt:

Anyway, good luck to your project!

No sooner said than done ;7 VW FS1 Modding Help (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs1/mods/)

and

VW FS2 Modding Help (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fs2/mods/)

A lot of the FS1 Help is also applicable to FS2

Title: Programs
Post by: Shadow Puppet on May 31, 2002, 03:12:29 pm
I know that it could take a while, but I'm not really good at telling other people what I see in my head, and I want it to come out how I want it...

I think I have all the Volition watch stuff... I was more aiming for the freeware part of it...

My campaign is still going to have the basic ships from the regular FS (btw I only have FS1 :(  ) campaign, but I want to include some new tihngs as the campaign is going to be from a Vasudan point of view... Not going to reveal anything else about the plot, you guys will just have to wait... lol

You get a damn good writer, then you sputter out all your thoughts to him (or her), and with any luck... they will be able to generate something to the rest of your staff that resembles what you had in mind

I`m writing a single handed campaign too. It can be done but it's a LOT of hard work.

nothing is really free anymore...would be best to find someone with a modelling program and ask them to borrow it or burn it

What about Blender? It's free, but for some reason they disabled the downloads on their site... anyone know why?

There's a love-hate thing about blender. Some modders use it while others would rather perform an appendectomy on themselves with a blunt machete rather than go near it (I`m from the second of those two camps).
If you can get anywhere with it good luck! :)

I've used Blender before and I've found something that can texture, so all I need is a d/l of Blender... at their site I just get a message saying:

"ERROR 404

This page doesn't exist.

Downloads have been disabled until further notice."

Blender's been download-disabled because Not a Number went bankrupt, from what I hear... I have the most recent version on my HD.  Be happy to e-mail it to you.  It's 1.63 megs.  If that doesn't work, I can try it over AIM or ICQ... soon as I remember what my ICQ # is.

I still swear by trueSpace. I used to hate it, but now I love it!

(It's probably because I actually sat down and played with it and tried things with patience.........amazing how tinkering with things can do this! :D:D:D)
