Title: vexor update
Post by: --Steve-O-- on November 23, 2011, 10:06:44 pm
projects not dead....just taking its sweet time. anyways, TIME FOR SCREENIES!!!!!
finally finished the heavy main batteries. all turrets are mapped to a single 2048, i plan on shipping with a lower res 1024 as well, or even a 512.
think i might go back and re-turret the hyperion and torrent with these.

forward launch bay, still WIP. i have not even started the midships launchbay internals yet. these work off one texture and will operate as detail boxes to control the polies and texture use.

Sexy stuff.

This is just FABULOUS!
Are you going to rework your Hyperion, Tethis and Torrent aswell?

Hyperion is very nearly done (sans fighterbay). Torrent is in early WIP.
Regarding the Vexor, it's amazing. It seems that it'll be both optimized and looking really, really great.
As for turrets, it's a good idea. I always liked that you have them consistent among your fleet. Not to mention it should be a bit better for memory usage.

Holy ****...
Is this a quad-turret or a single mass driver/railgun thing?

This is either a huge railgun or a Heavy Plasma cannon.
Anyway, single barreled.

Definitely great, keep up the good work, looking forward to see the final result. Could definitely have a lot of fun playing with this updated Vexor, that huge gun in the screenshot makes me wanna toy around with a table entry for a pulse/plasma projectile launcher.

One question, Do the fighter bay's doors open and close when there is a launch, or does it just remain open?

Question: Will this Vexor be just as much of a RAM killer as the original or has it been optimized for exellent preformance on some "better" computers.

Steve-O said it has only three or so textures compared to >50 for the original. So it will be much easier on RAM.

ram is not the problem. number of textures is. as is a ricockulous polycount. so i demand a wireframe view. again.

If issuing demands to modders doesn't work, you could try delivering an ultimatum. :p

Polygons don't really matter too much and really I doubt Steve-O has gone past 150k~ anyway (Sathanas is 200k with similar number of textures)

okay, are you seriously defending Steve-O now? Really, Hades?

Not really Steve-O specifically, but the silly notion that polygons are as super mega important that people tend to make them out to be.

Even if I were, why would it matter? Because you don't have any real retort to what I said before? :P

In fact I can safely make the claim the polygons are irrelevant.

200k-poly Sathanas performs better than the retail one because it uses fewer textures.

Let's not generalize too hastily. nuSath performs better than retail on computers with a GPU. Retail sath is about 2-4 times faster on my crapbook.

But who plays on computers without GPU anyway.

Wait you can play games that use 3D graphics on computers without a GPU?
Doesn't it need to at least have...some integrated ship?

...some integrated ship?
...now I want a computer with an integrated space ship.

you cant call an intelgrated a "gpu" exactly, yes?

It has a dedicated processor that handles graphics, so it is absolutely a GPU.

And how was I supposed to know it was sarcastic when there were absolutely no cues to indicate it? Do you think I am psychic? Do you think that I can actually hear you speak from whatever incredibly long distance separates us?

fine, i'll just snap a :p smilie at the end of every sarcastic sentence and that'll be the end of that dilemma.

Even that doesn't work half the time.
