Probably not until it's been thoroughly tested and approved. We don't need another broken installer followed by a wave of "y it no work fix nao" posts.

What Matth said. An offline installer is more promising than an online one when it comes to reliability, though, since an offline installer doesn't have to download anything. The downside, of course, is that using an offline one requires downloading everything. Trade-offs, as always.

Guys I understand the concerns but just to let youy know I have done this before:

I have personally tested it (playing thru the originally campaigns now), but of course I understand that you will want to test it yourself.

BTW - I could make another installer with just the Banebones stuff so people with slow connections could download just what they need.

Yeah, I can tell from your personal text and other posts of yours that you're no stranger to making offline installers, including FSO ones. Still, a "trust but verify" approach never hurt anyone, right? :) Especially since people would be awfully :mad2: if they downloaded several hundred MB, only to find that it didn't work. :p

I like this idea. Just to clarify, would "bare bones" mean FSO without MediaVPs, FSPort without MediaVPs or high-res command briefing anis, and ST:R without voice acting?

Please, please don't put release candidate clients in your offline installers, it's bad enough that noobs get hold of RC builds and think they're proper builds, let alone that you feed them to them.
Pretty please. <puppy eyes>

it's it a completely seperate installer labeled RC1, I don't see the problem.

However I can add a disclaimer if needed.

Not to mention, they've been up a week with no issue reported at all...

Also there announcment for RC1 on the freakin' front page, so what's this comment about "feeding them"?

(I'm very evil, so puppies mean nothing to me)

OK, moved RC1 to the very bottom and added a Disclaimer:

The problem is not so much that the builds are unstable or such, it's that noobs only tend to look so far as the numbers and go "Ohh, 3.6.14, that's what I'm using!", especially, this causes problems when mods use things that are not in the RC but in the final, or when people are trying to play multi together, and, unless the troubleshooter is looking for it specifically, it may be missed, leading to repeated long term problems with tech support because people who don't really know what they're doing have gotten their hands on experimental builds and expected them to be 'release' builds.
It happens far more than you'd imagine.
