Title: Extracting music from the vanilla game?
Post by: BritishShivans on December 28, 2011, 05:18:52 am
I heard about how you could extract Vanilla Freespace 2 music via QuickVP using some trick, but my google searches turn up nothing useful. Does anyone still of  how to do this?

This is mainly because I'd like the music files themselves so I can listen to them and such. Maybe see about converting them to mp3 format, though I imagine they'd be WAV. files like the first game's music, so I probably won;t have to convert them.

Again, if anyone knows how to do this with either quickvp or another program, thanks.

You can find QuickVP here : http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.77

Simply run it, find the .vp you want to extract (for example, FS2 Music is in the "warble.vp" located in the main FreeSpace directory), then extract the tracks you want.

You will notice that the music is in parts, Numbers for example is FS2_Btl_D01 FS2_Btl_D02 and FS2_Btl_D03. If you have an audio editor you can put it together so I did. I have pretty much all the FS1 and FS2 tracks here on my gamefront account if you would like http://www.gamefront.com/files/21128829/FSmusic.rar

On the subject, how about the cutscene musics? Especially for the intro and outro of both games, are they available somewhere?

With Audacity you can join the parts to each song from FS1 and 2,and ya can save all the songs in OGG-format or MP3 or what ya need.
I use it for Rule the Rail Doom and in the near future for FSO also.
You can extract music from cutscenes with forxtab Vid2mp3 convertor.

But extracting them directly from the cutscenes will also extract voices and sound effects correct?

If all Voices and effects inside of the cutscenes then it makes the work to 99% correct,as i used-

Yeah, that wasn't really what I was asking for. I wanted to have the FS1 intro and outro without the sound effects and voices. Just the music. :)

By the way, this post made me search a bit and:

There you have all the FS1 and FS2 music, in much better definition. There's also some music that wasn't used, as well as the cutscene musics for FS2's intro and outro :)

I think I have the FS1 intro music without the voices floating around somewhere, though I have no idea where I got it from.

I'd actually be interested in the contrary, having some FS1 and FS2 cutscene voices without the music. Is that possible ?
