As you see from above in this part of the Universe, the background makes the HUD very hard to see. I've tried to adjust the colours (orange, blue, green combinations) but nothing seems to be satisfactory. Black would be great ...... however ...... how? Thanks.

Did you try toggling the L button? It makes the HUD more opaque and brighter.
Also, a pure green HUD seems to have decent readability, at least for me. Human eyes tend to be most sensitive to the color green.

Thanks about the L tip.
I'm afraid I'm progressing with difficulty through the training missions. I wish I could go back to the earlier training mission to test the effect, but the training seems locked with linear progress only. I can't even find where there is a printable list of all the default keystrokes. :hopping:
I'll continue, but I find the whole setup with mods, FS, FS2, FS2 Open, very confusing. I'm afraid I'm better with a sim that comes off the shelf, bit like they did with Falcon 4.0 and Falcon 4.0AF. Otherwise we all become beta testers. :doubt:
As this forum says " ...... bringing modders together .....". I don't want to be a modder, I want to be a pilot. :nono:

Tech room -> Mission simulator?

Thanks, but can you explain a bit further, or should I read the manual and completed the training missions first? :drevil:
EDIT: Oooooooooooooops! I've found it. I think its a matter of RTFM for me before I proceed further ......... Thanks.

It actually looks better here than it is on my computer. Its better ......... I think ....... maybe you're meant to be half blind in this mission? But gees ........ my techo would be making me a black HUD for my next flight into this part of the Universe.

My Flight Techo came up with this as the best setting available until the new ship mod is available ........ :D He tells me as the pilot I have the easy job ....

lol, I guess that works. Just remember that in missions when you're out of the nebula, black HUDs will kind of suck for you.
And yes, nebula is supposed to make you half blind. And yes, it does get worse as lightning fall
from here.

i also find the HUD hard to see in bright missions, even with it turned to high-contrast mode (L). i'm unwilling to fiddle with my HUD settings every time I enter such a mission (and i like the default color scheme the best anyway), so I just kinda deal with it. though this is why in the exceedingly unlikely event i ever create any missions/campaign, there will be no bright background missions in it (and no fking sun that turns your screen white and burns your eyes if that's even possible)

You are clearly not using enough bloom :P
I also recommend you check your monitor calibrations. There shouldn't really be a reason that bright green HUD elements on pink nebula is hard to see. (Unless you're RG colorblind)

Oh yes!! I'll be your wingie anytime .......
I just bug out to the option screen (F2) when the mission starts and set my "favourite :doubt:" HUD colours and then jump back in. Maybe there's a switch in the cockpit somewhere to cycle your "favourite" HUD setups?
And as for those bloody turrets and those other hull things,, you need an H-bomb for each.

Bloom? is there a setting in FS2 for that?
Monitor calibration is set to accommodate other apps, so don't want to fiddle with those. Think its ok though. RG colour blind? No. Colour blind? No. Blind? ........ Maybe ... :p

Judging by the fact that you are not playing with the mediavps upgraded visuals, you don't have access to bloom. By the way, you should go look at Freespace Upgrade Project board if you are curious in how to keep the game exactly as is, but with upgraded lighting, models, textures, effects, music, etc, etc.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I find all the mods, updates and versions with FS2 quiet bewildering. :drevil: I came to FS2 looking for an alternative to Freelancer, but this is so much bigger.
