For some reason gliding does not work in fsopen 3.6.12, i press the glide key, and it does nothing, for some reason gliding worked in the Babylon project, but not in fs open or any other mod before you ask I read tech support and there was nothing about gliding, can any one help?
-
retail ships have no glide feature in the first place. only some custom ships are given glide.
-
Looks like i have my work cut out for me.
-
didnt fury or someone put together a glide mode for the retail ships?

You may be thinking of -Joshua-'s RealFlight mods, for FS Port and FS2 SCP. They are based in part on Sushi's Velocity Mod. I tested them a little using FSO 3.6.10, but I remember him saying they were a little bit broken.
http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?list.46 (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?list.46) They are about midway down the page; read the descriptions for instructions if you intend to try them.
Alternatively you could edit the ships.tbl file to enable gliding for retail (and other mod's) ships. This post might be helpful: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=78316.msg1549864#msg1549864 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=78316.msg1549864#msg1549864)

Glide worked beautifully in BtRL.
-
BtRL glide sucked: it's a fixed, immuable vector
In stuff like TBP yoù could actually alter the vector. Also, you couldn't cheat it to glide over normal speed.
And yeah, the mod is simply Fury's AI : it had an option to activate glide, and the glide in the AI
But be careful, the glide AI is... really.... ouch... it kicks ass

What? I seem to clearly remember being able to change the vector while gliding in BtRL.

I'm pretty sure that you that you could change the vector. I find it ironic comparing TBP and BtRL's gliding since they both used the same slightly edited version of 3.6.9.
The other BtRL glide issues were all fixed (by BtRL coder I might add IIRC) for 3.6.10. But instead of releasing the changes we decided to break up instead. :p
