Title: WIP: PCB Jormundgand + stuff
Post by: yuezhi on January 10, 2012, 08:23:09 pm
My first attempt at modelling a fighter in blender.

i'm still working on adding a cockpit.

EDIT:I remodelled it for a more slender look so it looks more like a jetliner and took out the box pattern on the hull. as you can see, it now has a cockpit. also, the cylinders are simpler so there are far fewer polygons than the original.
the nose now has a (imaginary) laser designator emitter.nose will be just a flat fuselage.

Space superiority variant PCF Lacunafortress. final product won't have a nose fuselage.

PCD Nidhogg. Most turrets still pending.

This for a standalone race or for any of the present species? The model itself has promise but imo it has too many tubes.

i know about the tubes but that's the whole point of the bomber. worst part is i made the amateur mistake of not decreasing the edge count and left them the way they are, but the polygon count is still under acceptable limits. btw, its from a terran faction, not a separate race; if it wasn't then it wouldn't be a norse name.

fyi, in war there are never enough tubes!

I dunno, it looks as if a blimp and a V12 engine had a lovechild. Not really like a fighter or bomber.

Too many tubes...plus that launcher is too vunerable.

It's also highly mobile, cheap, and easy to disguise. All good things to have if you're the warsaw pact and want to take on hordes of Abrams and Leopards.

probably won't happen anytime soon. a blimp is not what i had in mind so i'm gonna redo it from the ground up.
This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratofortress) is what i was trying to imitate.

Oh, and I thought this is some kind of space zeppelin with a friggin lot of tubes. A missile cruiser/corvette or something like that.

To me it looks more like some carrier which spews an infernal number of unmanned attack drones or something from every orifice.

right, if only drones existed in the FS universe then i don't think the GTVA would have to worry about casualty figures on the front.

not to mention middle-east armies vs. israeli whatever they have to call tanks. pattons maybe?

The GTVA does actually have drone technology, its just not used for war...

amazons are pathetic. When there are drones that shoot torps, missiles and kaysers and don't need cockpits then i'll stand corrected.

I was referring to the Repair Drones used to construct our 17 KM long beacon of hope...

last time i checked, modern militaries at present massively use UAVs for direct combat, not just recon and other stuff. They're damn powerful too and can even make short work of tanks. i have no idea what you mean by "beacon of hope" btw.

EDIT: added new pics at the top.

The Colossus probably. Which...isn't 17 kilometers in length.

May be more a ultra heavy armored and ultra heavy armed installation same as a firewall for seriously damaged ships or so.....?
The GTVA Colossus is near 6 km long.

lol just noticed, for some reason I've been convincing myself it was 17 km long. Don't know why...

added two more pics for the Nidhogg. I'm still debating whether to give it a fighterbay or not. If it won't, maybe i'll reclassify it as a battleship.

expect to see a transport soon.
