Post by: G0atmaster on January 17, 2012, 09:19:16 pm
Anyone hear of this game?  It's 20% off on Steam right now.  I've never heard of it before, but it looks reallly cool:

maybe its me, but looking at the video, a lot of this game looks like FS2... there ist any chance that that game was builded up from the original fs2 source code??

no, after playing the tutorial i can say this IS a highly developed Freespace.
if not then they copied everything from Freespace, incluiding most of the combat keyboard control maps!("press "," to switch primary weapons? wth), the shield training was EXACTLY the same as FS1/FS2 one, it looked like a copy&paste over there...

So this game was made up from FS2 code or EVERY one of the devs played FS and like it very much.

also, strange thing that the game is using exactly the same data storage model as FS, executable along with separated .vp .dat files

Umm. Pretty much any game engine does the same thing. Unreal, whatever Bethesda is using..... This is not "strange" in any way.

And World of Warcraft is a highly developped Baldurs Gate....... right. ;)

evochron mercanary is the evolution of several previous evochron games
starwraith 1 was released in 2000 and was written in dark basic
his earlier games were written in quickbasic

im not used to see every one of the fs features in another game, implemented in exactly the same way, and most of the time with the same keyboard keys.

Also flying feels like flying in fs, with the exception that is using inertia and ship has vertical and horizontal movement.

Most space sims I've played have had similar layouts, to be quite honest.
