Title: Soldier of Fortune 2- Warning contains gore
Post by: Zeronet on June 02, 2002, 12:44:01 pm
If you dont want to know what guns really do to people in Close combat, dont click the links. Still these shots arent that bad compared to whats possible, but for reasons of taste(more couldnt be bothered to upload them :D ) i didnt upload them.

SOF2 is a really good game IMO. The OCIW in the game is ultra effective and cool, with its nightsight, rangefinder, target identification 20x zoom and grenades and the AI is super. Its a recommended game.

The links should work now. One should note the pictures have been doctored and compressed, i had to because for some reason they were extremely dark while in the game its all fine.

And a OCIW sight picture.

Nice, and the gore is really well done. Pretty realistic, maybe?

But some of those inside places look too grey, I didn't like it. But that doesn't mean all of the levels look like that.

This was all shot in the same area. This aint the single player game per say. Its the Random Mission Generator.

Yep, SOF II is gory. Even though an enemy may be dead, I occacionaly wip out the gun (with silencer) and put one in the head. Also, the shotgun's good . However if dismemberment's the name of the game, then I suggest the knife :devilidea

Just think, now You can practise face-lif... alteration ;)

So far I've enjoyed the game.

[mental note] must raid local PC store using an AK-47 loaded with dum-dum rounds, grab a new high-end PC and SoF2, then make a narrowing escaping, ending with jumping of a car, which crashes into a local hospital, leaving behind a trail of body- and brainparts [/mental note]

what's everyone's fascination with gore. yeah, i don't mind a bit of gore but i think raven went a bit over-board with SOF2. Its okay to have blood and a bit of dismemberment, i have Max Payne and think its pretty cool to kill people in slow motion, apart from the plot this is the main reason to buy the game. With SOF2 other than the plot, it is being sold on the fact it's cool to see how many little pieces you can shoot someone into and how much pain they're in before they die. It's unethical and a devious point of sales. The publisher knows they are going to have SOF2 in every newspaper in the country if they make it violent and gory, it's practically free advertising.

The fact that you lot think its cool to see how much flesh you can skin from a bone is just sickening. By all means play the game and enjoy it for its levels of detail but don't compare who can do the most damage etc.

I also find the fact that the forum moderators did not ban this thread, for commending SOF2 on it's sickening obsenity, quite disturbing.

Well they didnt because i consulted them first, first the topic warns you and then you must click the links.

Why does SOF2 have so much gore? Because i quote "GHOUL II Technology provides Ultra-realistic damage modelling". A shotgun in this game, does the damage a shotgun in real life would do. When you shoot someone there is blood, unlike MOHAA. Also the game isnt just gore, its got super AI, good graphics and the famed Random Mission Generator. Which like its RTS counterpart generates maps to play on which are different each time. Also these shots are quite low intensity, there isnt any dismemberment or leg bones. No one has said anything about flesh or bones. Also when you shoot these portrayed people they dont feel pain, yes the motion captured death animations portray that, but it doesnt really happen. One of the main things this game does is open you up to the fact that i quote "It should be noted that Soldier of Fortune II is a realistic depiction of modern combat and warfare. As a result, this game contains scenes that may not be suitable for all audiences. If you do not wish elements of a violent or graphic nature to be displayed while playing Soldier of Fortune II, we have provided controls with which you can adjust the level of violence in the game."

I guess I should step in and point out at this point that if anyone is truly offended by any thread on the forums they can always tell one of the staff who will then lock it. It's been done before. We try and keep the laws on whats good and whats not as flexible as possible but there are some things like full-frontal nudity, warez and so on that are simply a no no. Since this violence is in game (and the discussion is about the game) then this is ok, and yes Zeronet did ask me first before posting this up (and linked the images so you have to want to look at it before you actually see what it shows).

Lets just keep it civil, if it honestly offends anyone then PM me and I'll lock it, if it degrades into a flame war over this subject or anything else like that then I'll lock it as well. As long as it stays as it is I'll leave it :)

Now when I have almost completed the game...

Nothing new really, first SoF was better when it came out than SoF2 now. Few nice gameplay tricks but thats about it. This game is actually boring.

That is my opinion of course. Personally I don't recommend wasting your precious money on this game, unless gore is what you need. ;)

One last note... the über gun OCIW is stupid, almost everything in one neat package, grab it and you need nothing else. *sigh*

Edit: Another Raven's game, Jedi Knight II is much better, consider buying it instead. (Another opinion of mine)

This game is longer than JKII. The first SOF is no where near as good as this one. SOF2 was a good purchase for those who like real Military Games.

If you guys want a REAL military game get either Ghost Recon or Operation Flashpoint. Both I highly recomend! :D

I already have Operation Flashpoint. Ghost Recon though is a miss for me.

Both are good games. However, I strongly urge that you buy Ghost Recon. Its REALLY good! Has some of the most suspenseful gaming I've ever had the plaeasure of playing. Like in the first mission, you're thrown into the forrests in Russia or Chechnia, I don't remember. Anyway, it was good, when I sent out my sniper to recon the area and take out anyone who might get trigger happy with the rest of my team. Well, what happened was that I didn't know there were two Russian soldiers who walked up right to my snipers immediate area! I heard them talking, quickly ducked to the ground, and crawled under a bush. Thankfuly he was camouflaged and they didn't suspect him. However, I could'nt see exactly where the Russians were. I just knew they were there, and talking. So I send in my team to help him out. They kill the two Russians, and I see that the Russians were infact standing right IN FRONT of the bush where my sniper was hiding. If he would have moved, he would have been discovered. I have to say the AI, in most cases is rather brilliant in the game. They duck, the ambush. They do everything. I even remember in one city battle, one russian running from behind a truck and jumping for cover, and my sniper shoots him in the head in mid air. The guy then crashes to the ground. Really cool. Not at all gory. Just cool.

That's what I thought of the first SOF compared to other games. :p (average graphics, unbalanced gameplay) I think I will be holding on to my money on this one.

Ghost Recon looks quite neat, though.

I can't wait for another month or two though, when Unreal Tournament 2003 comes out... ;)

SoF2 is a sweet game. I'm not a gore fanatic, but it definately adds to the realism. And yet the game doesn't have over the top realism that ruins the fun.

It's highly recommended by me.
