Title: Announcement: Paradise Bird
Post by: MrTealTwo on January 21, 2012, 02:45:12 pm
I'd like to announce my huge original campaign named Paradise Bird, featuring around thirty missions (actually there's much more since I have implemented separate missions for take-offs and landings as well) ((the real mission count is nearly 70, I think)). I've been working on this project since January 2010, all the missions are done. Now just polishing and improving everything. Can't estimate the exact time of release yet.

Anyway, let's see, features:

30ish missions
a unique story-line that picks up after Capella and goes to unexpected directions from there
custom ships made by various people
only custom music
multiple unique ideas implemented throughout the campaign
hopefully a high-quality experience

Since I've been working on this alone for a long time, from scratch, the end result might feel slightly inconsistent. Also, it will not be too heavily character-driven, perhaps the feeling of the missions and the general mood throughout the campaign take the highlight. It's kind of a mixed bag, anyway =P

All questions are welcome, of course ^

Why do you need separate missions for landings and take offs ? You could just use in-mission subspace jumps instead.

It was a choice I made very long ago, it simply is the way I structured the campaign from the beginning. At the time: Most importantly, it provided a different kind of feeling since you actually see your home ship or even a fleet during almost every assignment. You can easily change the vibes by changing the music track. For example, after a large fight, I could choose to play some sort of relieved kind of music. Or victorious. Also, in a large part of the missions, I have attempted to provide the idea that the world is alive around you with all kinds of random things that are occurring in the vicinity of your mothership. You can either look at what's happening or simply ignore it and continue by jumping/landing. Plenty of custom loading screens, too.

No, I didn't look into this option because at the time I hadn't played anything that had in-mission jumps. Like War In Heaven, for example. Or Vassago's Dirge.

I, as well, do not like errors and bugs, and will do anything and everything I can to make sure the released product is as free of them as possible

Just for info, please tell me you didn't use red alerts to link those missions with each other. They're horribly unreliable and will remain that way until the new pilot code gets in trunk.

WIN!  Seriously though, this is the type of campaign I've been waiting for a LONG time!

Anyways, Good Luck... Waiting for you at the finish line!

Also, can you show us some screenies? please :D

In the first picture u see GTxC Njord, which is a model created by Aldo. In the last pic, GTT Wyvern, also by Aldo. Both models can be found on the FreeSpace Wiki.

I don't see any names (printed with the STOP font) on the warships. If you want more eyecandy you can add them (tuto: Idk where to find them, I am sure they are on the forums somewhere. I could look but its kinda late here).

Also in the first screen with the GTxC. Isn't the capship a bit too close to the star? In WiH at the last mission
Spoiler:
the Indus was pretty much at the same range from the Sun and half [80% to be exact] their crews were dying from radiation poisoning .

Dohohohooo obligatory BP derail :p

Spoiler:
The Indus was a lot closer to the sun than that ship is, and BP physics don't necessarily apply to the rest of FS. If a ship has the armor to protect the crew from direct hits from multi-gigaton nuclear weapons, it can probably hang around near stars.

Okay, a lil update. Firstly, it may take more time than I expected to get everything done. However, postponing is far superior to releasing an unfinished campaign.

Secondly, I might release screenshots from time to time to keep some interest up.

That's all, really =p
