Double check you've made a backup before proceeding further, just in case. You do make regular backups, right?

Then I suppose if you really suspect you've got a bug, I'd start with malwarebytes, but that's just me.

Sounds like you just fuxxored your account somehow though...

If super wanting to make sure you really don't have a virus. Do a pre boot scan. Avast is the only antivirus program i know of that will do that. You could easily do it with the trial version of the home edition (home edition is free...still requires registration...no registration is a trial of 60 days).

you can make a liveboot CD or something and stick pretty much any virus scanner on it.  it didn't kill the virus i got, but mine was considerably more nasty than hiding your hidden files.

Somehow I did a complete virus scan (I switched from Trend Micro to Bit Defender about two weeks ago when Trend Micro subscription ran out) and it didn't find anything and I shut my comp down b/c it was late.

When I started my comp today it said "your installed antivirus is cleaning your computer..........."
"cleaned"

and then booted the rest of the way.

and the problem is now gone.

And I'm 99% sure it was a virus because I was on some very disreputable-looking porn sites when it happened.

Cool, you got a preboot scan done.

DUMBASS

That's really all I can say to that.
Best way to find good ones is to ask google. Take the link, type "porn site name" safe?

And you'll probably get countless amounts of forums saying stuff

If you want to be really extreme. surf porn through a virtual machine :D There's a number of ways to do it without getting infected. The main method is not to actually use your computer to surf for it.

Firefox + Private Browsing + NoScript + AdBlock + a brain when it comes to websurfing = no malware infections.

That, and don't run your PC with an administrator-level account.

Be careful with saying this in here. There's a high chance you will be met with other people's tardation and over assumptiveness for what is otherwise fantastic advice.
