Title: patches and updates
Post by: Charismatic on January 27, 2012, 11:16:19 pm
How do you get a patch or update to a campaign to work? Does it go in a new folder?
for example the blue planets: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?list.6

Patch VPs go in the same folder as the VPs they patch, I'm pretty sure.

Although the most recent version of BP doesn't have a patch. If you're looking for BP (or any mod really), be sure to get the version posted in the mod's release thread. In the case of BP, try the release threads stickied in the BP forum (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?board=169.0).

So there are only 2BPs and not 3?

Not sure if it's planned to be a trilogy, but so far Age of Aquarius (Part One) and the first part of War in Heaven (Part Two) have been released. Their release threads are stickied in the BP forum.

I believe BP is going to be a trilogy, although the second part of the trilogy (War in Heaven) was split in half; only the first half has been released so far. So there will be at least four releases in total, depending on whether the third part of the trilogy is split as well. Not sure if I expressed that clearly, so here's a list :p:

Blue Planet 1: Age of Aquarius (released)
Blue Planet 2: War in Heaven 1 (released)
Blue Planet 2: War in Heaven 2 (not released)
Blue Planet 3: The Number of FPS You'll Get Playing It (not released)

Excellent thanks. Side question:
How do you get screenshots to be by default jpeg or a "better" format then a small (idk) 640x??? sized TGA?

The format of the screenshots is .tga. The resolution is the resolution you're playing at. If 640x480 doesn't seem like fun, try cranking it up from the Launcher.

You misread my question. I know its by default TGA. How do i reconfigure it to take screenshots in JPEG or other format, so they look pritty...

FSO takes screenshots in TGA, period. Can't change that without recoding it.

What you can do is convert your TGA to some... more standard format (TGA is already a perfectly standard format but I guess most picture hosting websites are too dumb to realize that) with the image editor of your choice.

Protip: use PNG over JPG. There's no reason to suffer crappy compression formats those days.

I completely received and understood your question. Like MatthTheGeek said, the screenshot format is TGA, period. It's not exactly the "default" format, it just... is. There was once discussion about adding other screenshot formats, but nothing came out of that. If you need to have other formats, just open the screenshots with any image editor (as was already said) and convert them to the format you want.

I'm guessing you meant "pretty". TGA is lossless which means it's as pretty as it gets. JPEG would be lossy and thus less pretty. If you want the best of both worlds, PNG would be your choice. You need to do the conversion yourself in an image viewer or editor of your choice. Like Irfanview for example.

[small (idk) 640x???
FSO captures screenshot in whatever resolution you're playing FSO at. Which means if your screenshots are of small resolution, then you're playing at small resolution. Do what Jeff suggested and use higher resolution by changing it in launcher.

Ok thanks.
And yes, pretty.
