Title: FSO Crashing
Post by: Charismatic on January 30, 2012, 12:43:53 am
I am using Windows 7, an A8-3800 series, with a AMD Radeon 6550 D? graphics card.
I used 3.6.12 INF and launcher 5.5g.  Beat BP1 with no problems. Downloaded and used the shader thing and 3.6.14 RC4 which was needed for BP2.
I crashed at 3 different places in mission 1 of BP2, but when running the debug it finished fine. I got good FPS in  BP1 but during the debug run of BP2 i got 10-20 FPS and the game periodically lagged and near froze during the mission. I assume it was part of the debug and 'running in window' which was recommended to do while debugging in http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.0) thread.

Attached is the log.

"Run in window" is not strictly a required option. The idea for asking people to do that while generating a log was that sometimes some issue may be related to a firewall popup or somesuch which is easier to detect visually when the game doesn't steal the entire screen estate.

I don't have time to parse through the entire log (and a quick view doesn't point out anything crash-causing), but one thing does poke me in the eye:
Code: [Select]
Initializing OpenGL graphics device at 640x480 with 32-bit color...If you're gonna use all the advanced graphics vps, options, bells and whistles, then why in the seven hells are you playing at 640x480 resolution?

I'm playing at 1600xsomething.  The play in window I assume was that size as it was pretty small.

The window would be the size of the resolution set in the Launcher. That is, if the resolution in the Launcher is 640x480, the window will be 640x480. Just to be absolutely, positively certain:

What does it say in that box on your end?

Unless my resolution changed when i installed some campaigns/mods i seem to have been mistaken, i was at a lower resolution then I thought.
Fixed now @ 1366.768

kk

Also, there was discussion at the BP board (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=79788.0): apparently RC4 has a bug with the fade-out SEXP. Either wait for RC5 or revert to RC2 (RC3 had some different but equally annoying bug).

Do you think it was the fadeout sexp?
