Generic Cyborgs are coming one step nearer to having HMG transform-o-arms thread.

I'll show myself out.

Nooo, you must stay GB! For your initials are awesome.

I'm guessing (uneducatedly) that this process van be applied to feet as well as hands? Maybe even..... Extra hands doc ock style? Say, substitute the nerve control for two fingers each side, and replace with a tendril?

There was a theory floating some time back that you could add more limbs or sensory inputs with minor consequences. The bad thing is that your synapses in your brain have to connect the dots to get the new limbs to work. Young children are prime candidates for prosthetics, since the common belief is that their brain is much more adept at these sort of things - learning how to walk, ride a bike, etc. The older you get, the harder it would be for you to gain additional senses/limbs because your brain has already culled much of the excess synapses to make it as efficient as possible (e.g. flexing your fore-finger. even though there's at several muscles per finger, you can't flex them individually... why would you do so, anyway?)

Prosthetics that measure up to human equivalents (ignoring sense of touch) probably won't be realized for another thirty years or more. This makes me sad sometimes. It will probably be easier to grow new arms than to replace them with an advanced (meeting or surpassing default specs) prosthesis.

Which begs the question whether you could have a third arm grown eventually.

Also, tentacles. :)

Should that happen, Japan would be a big(er) no-go to virgin girls between the ages of 16 and dust.
