Hello,
I been excited by the FS story and I have been playing accordingly with the story and now I seek some advice to the pros for what mod I should play next. I played FS2 (got hooked there to the game), don't ask why I played this first, long story. Then I played FS1, silent treat reborn. And now I am curious what follows in the story.
Any advice? I don't really want to be jumping all over the mods.

If you like the FreeSpace story and stuff, Blue Planet (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=68213.0) has a nice interpretation and exploration of the universe.

Tough. :D
There is of course nothing canon after the end of FS2, and there are as many continuations of the FS universe as there are fans. Many of these, of course, conflict with each other. If you want to limit yourself to one mod that continues the story, I'd recommend Blue Planet, but I'd moreover recommend that you don't limit yourself to one mod in the first place. :p

Where does Derelict fall?
Oh, and, if you want to laugh, play the JAD (Just Another Day) series. ;)
-
Blue Planet is one fan continuation of the story, with its own particular style and approach to the universe. You can also check out Derelict, which is a bit less polished but a great time, and in the future you can look forward to Earth Defence and Inferno.
-
Derelict takes place not too long after the Second Incursion, though I forget the specific figure. Blue Planet starts 18 years later.

Consider it like one of those old adventure books where the story changes depending on which page you chose to turn to ;)

If you are undecided about what you want to play, that is chonologically after FS2, you could play "Vassagos Dirge", which plays parallel to FS2... or rather it acually happens after FS2, but you "play the memory" of the character so to say....
It sounds a bit confusing, but once you played a mission or two you'll see what I try to explain here.

Vassago's Dirge is an excellent mod that you should play.

Quoted for truth
Now go play jad 2.21 Battuta

Yes, go for Vassago and Derelict.
After that you can play the other nice campaigns out there, you've got a pretty long list from where to choose luckily.

I would include more campaigns in this list

Campaigns that fit into the FS timeline?... the only one I can think of right now is Sync, but he may look in here (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Campaign_List) I guess and ask away which ones are the best.

Well um there are the other campaigns mentioned in this thread
In terms of post-Capella content I'd say the must-plays are BP, Derelict, and Transcend, with Inferno also a fun bit of historical modding and Sync kinda okay. Also Windmills is great.

iirc there are a few mods that continue on pretty much instantly from the end of FS2, my Cleaning Crew was one (but it's bad) and there was one other, but I can't remember the name.
-
I think the old standby Warzone is set fairly soon after FS2.
-
If you really want the 100% official and canon continuation of the story you should definitely play FreeSpace 3 (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Freespace_3_the_search_For_bosch).

While it's a bit short "Uncharted Terretory" is also very nice (though again it is about events that happened during FS2) and despite a few backstroy inconsistancies I also enjoyed Homesick quite a lot.
