Title: TERA - The Exiled Realm of Arborea
Post by: Gortef on April 19, 2012, 10:40:59 am
Can't remember there being a topic for this upcoming MMO.

So anyways, starting from today the Open Beta for TERA is... well, open for 5 days. I strongly recommend people to at least consider trying it out.
It's a rather large download though, but still highly recommended.

If someone doesn't know the game, here's some things in a nutshell.
Questing itself is the same old "kill these and collect these", but what's really fun in it is the gameplay itself.
There is no Tab-Targeting in TERA, instead you have a crosshair on screen and the weapons have a hitbox modeled so if you swing your sword around and it hits a mob, it hits that mob and you need to deal with it.

Other than that, the game looks quite stunning and runs pretty well.

I was in Closed Betas and I had quite a lot of fun with my Berserker.

Being the little girl is seriously adorable. (In a daaaaw kinda way, not pedo yo)
The combat is interactive and not completely standard fare mmorpg point click and ZZzzzz
But its still a mmorpg with a utterly boring quest system so after trying three different classes I already felt I had seen the whole game so meh.

Indeed the Elins are completely adorable (my Berserker on the CBT was an Elin btw. A bunnygirl with a HUGE axe... HHNNGGHHH!). Gonna make one on the release too.

And as I said yes the quest have not been as innovative as the combat system, but as far as I've heard things get a bit different on higher levels where area politics between clans come up to the play.
Also they'll implement Rift -style random invasion battles to the game aswell on the release (or soon after it). But the combat itself is enough to keep me entertained, at least the mobs change a bit when you level up.

Didnt the chronicles of spellborn do the reticle combat thing already?

What little bit I got to participate in was quite nice.  But I found myself not being able to get past the Loli, err, Elins and make one.  The eyes that were available were too glassy for my taste.

I liked the starry eyes. But indeed some of the Elin eyes were... err... a bit frightening.

The point is that En Masse is attempting to "westernize" it, also depending on how deep you got into the Open Beta, it's very difficult to judge how a will play at max level when you are level 10.

Indeed the upper level (38+) areas and stuff are still unknown. But in due time it will all become clear.
