OK, the log follows, but these are the lines that got my attention:

You are using the MSVC Express Edition compiler, which lacks support for MFC, which is needed for FRED.

Yep.  You don't have permission to write to the program files folder as a normal user.  If you do the copy from explorer it will pop up the UAC to get permission to copy the file.

Sorry, I misread the output.  Reading it again the problem is you don't have the FS2PATH environment variable setup, which allows the build process to automatically copy the newly built binary to the FS2 directory.  If you don't know how to setup the environment variable the last few paragraphs (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=74840.msg1479352#msg1479352) of this post explains how.  Either way, the failure is not critical, its just noise.

Ah... Mis-read Zacam's post here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=74840.msg1479356#msg1479356) (later in the thread); I thought I needed to add FreeSpace 2 to the PATH variable.  I see now that I needed to create a FS2PATH variable with the location of FS2.  My bad.  :nervous:  I guess I'm used to playing with PATH (mostly from ages ago with good ol' DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11) so that's what I assumed the instructions said, so that's what I read.  :wtf:  Rather disconcerting, re-reading them later to find they actually say something different.  :lol:  So, created new user env var, force-quit and re-ran explorer.exe, tried again, (I needed a debug r8690 anyways), and the file copied successfully.
