Title: No mods load the second mission onwards; same error and symptoms(details inside)
Post by: SaltyWaffles on May 06, 2012, 01:11:27 am
This happens with both the Wings of Dawn and Blue Planet AoA mods. I've got the latest 3.6.12 FINAL build, Inferno SSE2 (or whatever it is), with the additional content all installed.

I followed the installation instructions to the letter.

I can play the first mission (or introductory cutscene in BP's case), but halfway through loading the next mission's briefing, the game quasi-crashes, giving me essentially the same error:
Could not load in 2_CommandBrief-mb!
ntdll.dll! ZwWaitForSingleObject + 21 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObjectEx + 67 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>

It can vary a little bit, but it's mostly the same (first line seems to always be the same). I usually click OK to get right back into the game, which gives me some weird version of the briefing--I can't pause/skip/continue through the briefing, if it actually plays at all, which it might. The buttons are all grayed out.

On one occassion, I tried just hitting Cancel (which is supposed to just exit the game), but got this error:

Verify failure: Vbuf0 != NULL

ntdll.dll! ZwWaitForSingleObject + 21 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObjectEx + 67 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe! <no symbol>

I had to go back into the game and exit, but that went on just fine. And yes, I tried both cloning and creating a new pilot, same results every time.

Could anyone please help here? I would greatly appreciate it--I see all of these great mods, but I can't really play them, and it sucks.

Oh, and why do I have to pass two independent spambot tests every time I post--including when I EDIT those posts?! ((Never mind; see below))

EDIT: Log file is attached to my post a little further down.

log plz (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359)

Edit: Did you switch to the correct campaign from the in-game campaign room?

Uh, "every time" is a bit harsh after one (1) post. But sorry. Seems there's some new anti-spambot stuff going on. Those were quite a nuisance back in the day and the administration is trying to find a solution that is as much convenient and effective as possible. At least registrations should not have to be approved by administrators anymore.

I'd guess the tests end after a few posts.

Ya, that would be so someone can't just register for a spambot, then let the spambot take over and wreak havoc.  Now, they have to register, post a couple of times (until it stops testing), and then they can turn it over to a bot.  Which is hopefully enough of an inconvenience that they will never do it.  ;)

Please post your debug log! I'm not sure Blue Planet will run under 3.6.12 - due to a bad decision we made, it may require 3.6.14 RC6. But please post your debug log anyway!

The BP error is usually caused by a problem with the location or name of the MediaVPs.

Uh, that wasn't the log? How do I find the log, if that's not it?

And about the spambot stuff--makes sense, though I'm surprised spambots were such a big problem here.

EDIT: Missed the link, whoops. I'll get on that right away for the log.

And yes, I'm sure I have the AoA campaign selected.

EDIT2: I've attached the log. Note that this time, the game fully crashed. Hope that's still enough. Let me know if it isn't.

You are missing MV_Root.vp. You do have its patch, MV_Root.3612.vp, but you are missing the original file itself.

Edit: download link (http://mvp.fsmods.net/3612/MV_Root_3612.zip).

Odd...I'm fairly certain I already had that. In fact, when I went to extract the files from that DL link to the mediavps folder, I had to overwrite the identical files preexisting there. I'll give it a shot, regardless, and let you know how it works out.

Thank you so much!
