Currently characters in Blue Planet exist as lines of text and pictures inside the heads of imaginative players. Some characters even have voices! For some, this is enough. For the rest, a character doesn't really come to life unless you can see them!
I was pretty impressed with the EVE Online character generator and threw together some character portraits.
Note these are not canon. The limitations of the character generator may mean some characters would be closer to, for example, Sara's renders in Poser or hand-drawn dev concept art.
First up, the Wargods.
Olefumi
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/olefumi.jpg)
Ng'Mei
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/ngmei.jpg)
Simms
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/simms2.jpg)
And now the admirals!
Byrne
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/byrne-1.jpg)
Netreba
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/netreba.jpg)
Calder
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/calder2.jpg)
Steele
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/steele.jpg)
And now the Age of Aquarius triumvirate.
Sam
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/sam.jpg)
Corey
(http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc415/dariusbei/corey.jpg)
Taylor

And as a bonus, Kassim

I really like how Byrne turned out. Steele, I'm torn between liking the goatee he has now and wanting to see what he'd be like with a real mustache/goatee combo. Very studiously kept, of course. Think Kane from Command and Conquer.
-
Steele is a no go, it needs to be meaner!
-
He looks like Samuel L. Jackson. How's that not mean enough? :)
-
He's not magnificent enough right now to be a Magnificent Bastard. He's got the bastard part down pat, but he isn't glorious enough. I want to see him with an awesome set of facial hair like Kane has, as Scotty said.
-
Obviously the picture was taken out of uniform. Steele wears a pirate hat when he's on the bridge.
-
And eyepatch, don't forget an eyepatch. :)
-
Thanks for posting the portraits, Darius. The admirals appear far younger than their rank would suggest, but then again, it's the future. Calder looks exactly how I imagined him.
-
Something about Byrne throws me off. The lips or the orange eyes. One or both.
As for Steele.. I dunno. I concur with the more facial hair comment. Actual hair as well?
The basic impression I got of Steele reminded me forcibly of Ivan Antonov from the Starfire (David Weber & Steve White) series, albeit not Russian.. this picture lacks Antonov's badassery.
Has anyone else who read the series gotten that impression?
That being said, well done.
-
Having read the series, I can say that I definitely didn't make that connection. And even now that you've brought up the connection, I still don't see it. I always saw him as a cross between Kane, the Operative, and Samuel L. Jackson.
-
I for one approve of steele
-
I agree that Steele doesn't look old enough, and should probably have a scar somewhere. Skin-color aside, I'd always pictured him looking more like Michael Ironside (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000461/), though perhaps when he was somewhat younger than he appears to day. Simms could use perhaps a couple of years and improved realism for her hair... needs to be dirtier or perhaps a faded brown.
Are you gonna add Al Fadil?
-
i envisioned Steele as somewhat similar to Bosch
-
I'm going to agree on the comments about Steele not looking right. The others are pretty much spot on, though.
-
Can we see the War God Karuna captains? Sorensen, etc.
-
Yes, he needs a few scars and a not-so OMFG shinny skin. As it stands now it looks more likely for him to kiss me to death rather than kick me to it.
-
Taking another look:
-Byrne's eyes are way too bright. Kind of creepy. Would want to transfer off the Solaris ASAP.
-Conversely, Calder looks a bit dull. I kind of had him pictured as the type whose piercing gaze and militaristic bearing remind you that he could kick your ass twenty different ways in an instant despite his showing age.
I agree that Steele doesn't look old enough, and should probably have a scar somewhere.
You know what I think would look great on Steele? An cybernetic eye. Not a bulky Borg-esque thing, but a prosthetic implant that you don't notice at a glance but that is really disconcerting to have focus in on you.
-
Byrne looks like he has a Goauld in him.
-
The hair looks of...on all pics...
-
Some of this feedback would probably be more useful for the EVE Online character generator team than for us.
-
I'll send the feedback to the appropriate authorities and tell them to shape up.
-
Byrne looks kinda badass with these glowing orange eyes. Bonus points for badass mustache.
And I actually like this Steele. It's rather easy for me to imagine him standing on the bridge while playing subspace chess.
-
Dammit. Saw a picture of Captain Sisko from DS9.
Can never not see Steele like that. Or without that voice.
Dammit.
-
Steele... yeah I dunno. I always imagined him like... Head-BSHb.ani. An evil mastermind, calmly talking to his enemy, knowing he's two steps ahead of you anyway and there's nothing you gonna do that can stop him. With a uniform and a cap, expressing authority.
This Steele... looks more like street scum, with that cheapo T-shirt and the fierce look. Perhaps it's just me, but... yeah. Oh, and call me old-fashioned, but Netreba looks very young to be an admiral. IMHO.
The others, though, very well done! Do I spot some new pilot art?
-
I like how Byrne turned out, but if he looks like Larry Drake maybe we should try to hire him for the voice acting. Otherwise, me likey. Except for Steele. He needs a full on beard of evil at the least. He looks too...Taye Diggs.
-
Dammit. Saw a picture of Captain Sisko from DS9.
Can never not see Steele like that. Or without that voice.
Dammit.
I think there are worse things. Sisko was one of the coolest characters in StarTrek and could be pretty mean at times too (he did poisen a whole planet to anything not Cardassion in his vendetta against the security-chief turned Marquise traitor... who's name I forgot incidentially).... at least untill the whole wormhole beings nonsense set in full force.
-
Oh, it's not that I dislike Sisko. I actually really like Sisko. It's just kind of annoying to have that connection form unbidden.
-

That was funny

I think Steele looks pretty good. They do look much younger than I thought as someone suggest, but that doesn't change anything for me. Calder looks a bit too archetypical, though.

I don't really like steele, I always imagined him looking more like this guy:
than just some random black dude
e: also when i read olefumi's dialogue i kinda imagined him as a smaller dude

How would Admiral Lopez look?

Let us not forget that it was the brave Cardassian Garak who actually did the deed
-
Sure Garak planted the bomb without Siskos knowledge, but that he obtained necessary components and created the fake visual data was with Siskos permission (even though it was Garaks idea).
And ultimately it wasn't the destruction of the ship that made the Romulans go to war. It was that stick with the fake video. While it wasn't enough to convince the Romulans in prime condition, after the destruction of the ship the imperfections where put down to battledamage (and thus they "logically" concluded the Dominion bombed the ship to keep that video secret).
Furthermore Sisko let get Garak away with an assasination, without even a symbolic punishment (unless you count shouting and glaring) or so much as a word to the authorities and thus became not just a witness but an acomplice to the bombing just as much as if he'd known in advance.
So yes, his guilty conscience is justified to a high degree, but then he can live with that. And seeing how the Dominion didn't win the war, it seems to have been worth it.
-
Wouldn't Sisko making a word to the authorities be kind of pointless since Starfleet approved the whole scheme?
-
And thus the Cardassians saved the Alpha Quadrant from the Dominion.
You're welcome.
-
Take your Star Trek roleplay elsewhere, please.

Did you read the thread?
These are just some artistic takes by Darius in the EVE character generator, they're not definitive portraits.

Yeah, I got that, but since everyone was so happy about them...and Simms still look like an egghead with some strwa on top^^

Thats normal, if someone remotely popular creates something any good at all they will praise it highly.
-
I really liked them, but a few things:
1) Steele doesn't look anything like I imagined him to be, and I had a wide variety of things in that imagination. It's not his race/skin tone, but the fact that he looks...soft, young, too relaxed. He doesn't look anything like a Magnificent Bastard. In fact, I initially thought he was Admiral Bei (he looks exactly what I expected Admiral Bei to look like).
2) Sam looks a bit too Asian, given his accent (and that of his father and mother). It just doesn't fit; even if he was adopted, his accent (especially when put in the context of his parents' accents) just pushes the jarring factor too far, in my opinion.
3) Netreba seems too young and...soft?...to be a Fleet Admiral. I've never seen or heard of an officer of that high in rank looking anywhere near that young.
4) Byrne looks a bit too harsh, but that could just be his expression. Not only does he look like something straight out of a movie with insert-Commies-are-horrible-evil-monsters for villains. I think it's a combination of the wrinkles, facial hair, bang style (which is good, just not in this combination/context), and especially the cheeks/cheek bones. In all, it gives him a very pointy, jagged-yet-precise-and-orderly, sinister feel.
5) Where's Noemi?! :D
Simms looks great, as does Ng'Mei, Olefumi, Corey, and Calder (though I would personally give Calder a very thin layer of gray hair). Taylor looks great, though definitely not how I thought she might look like.
-
Sam says he has family in Hong Kong, so it's safe to assume that while his ethnicity is Asian, he has quite a bit of British culture mixed in.

Oh wow. Quartritch would be a GREAT model for Steele, though not the only one. He could go well with Liam Neeson:http://www.thecinemasource.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/the_grey_movie_poster-liam_neeson.jpg (http://www.thecinemasource.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/the_grey_movie_poster-liam_neeson.jpg). Or Ed Harris: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000438/ (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000438/), or maybe someone younger. Skin tone really doesn't matter in this case; it can be whatever you need it to be.
-
This is my interpretation, but swap the concept art for admiral byrne and admiral calder.
Calder strikes me as a younger brazen attack type while admiral byrne gives me the impression of a more steely eyed 'stay the course' defense type.
Prettymuch all the others look close to how I imagined they would, particularly admiral steele.
Edit:
From FSF:
This Steele... looks more like street scum, with that cheapo T-shirt and the fierce look.
Yeah, I am imagining him fuly clothed as an admiral. Going of the description "gentlemen psychopath" He can make you feel at ease in one moment, and frightful in the same conversation. His furious nature is kindled by his exceptional war record, yet he is tempered by his class and rank as an admiral.
-

Do note that Calder is the oldest officer in the UEF. He's going on 70 by the time of WiH.
Byrne and Netreba are both younger than that; while no age is given for them, they're both in their 40s, at least outwardly. The UEF does have some fancy age-hacking tech available after all.

Again, this is due to the limits of EvEs character creator. Also note that these are in no way definitive portraits.
As for myself, I imagine Steele's part is being played by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

This. In my mind Steele is way too cold and calculating to fit a Quarhowever-his-name-is-supposed-to-be-written type character.
Avatar-colonel is more ima-badass calm & ruthless, while Steele seems to be more im-in-control calm & ruthless.

Maybe you're right.
-
How about Steele portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson, minus his usual liberal use of foul language?
-
Why remove that part?
-
Based on what we've observed, that would be out of character for Steele.
-
Laurence Fishburne, possibly.
Although Chiwetel Ejiofor shares a name with Steele, presumably on purpose.
-

Hang on, are there no birthdates in the dossiers? I remember inserting them...
-
Well, Calder's easy to figure out since he served in the First Incursion.
I still kind of want to pretend he was Alpha 1 and not a Fenris gunnery officer.
-
I'm admiral byrne and this is my favorite face on the citadel.
Anyone else think he looks like Shepard?
-
Considering I always made custom shepards, rather than using the default, that's a definate no for me :P
-
Byrne can't look like Shep. Byrne is male. Silly Kolgena.

I always pictured Steele like Ferrando in Generation Kill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecLpOnpHaZw
Minus the throat thing though.

Patrick Stewart as Calder?

Michael Ironside is Calder to me. If Patrick Stewart fits anyone, it's Byrne.

Could you see Avery Brooks (DS9's Ben Sisko) as Steele?

Yes, definitely.

Gimme Michael Clarke Duncan as STeele:

-
Any suggestions for Netreba?
-
Salma Hayek for Anita Lopez?
-
Based on what we've observed, that would be out of character for Steele.
Your know, Agent Nick Fury (IIRC), as portrayed in the Avengers, seems like a great template for Steele. It would need some tweaking, of course, but it's got a lot of what you need there already.

Another impressive candidate. Very intriguing, but I'm not quite sure he's charismatic and eloquent enough, though that might just be in need of some tweaking stead of a different template.
-
It's been said Steele could be played by Avery Brooks (DS9's Captain Ben Sisko), I agree with that.
Some have also said Sisko's final monologue in "In The Pale Moonlight" could be delivered by Steele after what happened concerning the Elder. I could see Steele delivering a somewhat similar monologue depending on the circumstances (i.e., that he believes he did the right things). Depending on how the war goes it could be delivered by Steele from one of three places:
-a Martian prison for war criminals
-some random apartment complex where failed GTVA military officers go to retire
-Sol Commandant office...formerly Ubuntu HQ
-
Or a GTVA justice court, judged for high treason for deliberately communicating false information to, and planning an assault on, a Vasudan destroyer.
-
For a bit of a semantics nitpick: tried, not judged. Judged implies no possibility other than a guilty verdict.
Assuming he didn't inform his Terran superiors (and he could very well have done so):
1) The ship did not come to harm and was effectively impervious to the efforts of a small number of GEF fighters.
2) He convinced the cell to attack the UEF transport. He could even say this was what actually happened, if he didn't tell his superiors about the Pegasi 'going missing'.
3) The Vasudan admiral was one we might call a "hawk", and was actively looking for a way to get more involved in the war, and as such no false communication occurred. Assuming a species' entire population thinks the same way on all issues is a path that leads to madness.
That said, in the event of a trial, that speech would be awesome.
-

Please spare the non-native English speaker here :p
1) The ship did not come to harm and was effectively impervious to the efforts of a small number of GEF fighters.
If that was the case, the Zod admiral wouldn't have risked a crash jump to get the f*ck out of there. He would have dispatched them, plotted a course and jumped out safely. You don't put your shiny destroyer in danger (crash jumps ARE dangerous and generally a last resort option) to flee from an insignificant threat. Those GEFs had Paveways (IIRC) and were going for disabling runs. No ship is impervious to that.
-
Not to mentiont that those swarm torpedoes the Scimitars use, can do a lot of harm as well.
The original Hatshepsut wasn't exactly a pinacle of point defense and those two pulse turrets won't have changed this by much.
-
Also, did not come to harm ? I distinctly remember several turrets getting paveway'd.

All this assumes that the jump wasn't already plotted out. The Atreus during the Blitz demonstrates nicely (although off-screen) how it can smoothly transition from one jump to the next in seconds. If the Vasudan Admiral had been a 'hawk' it wouldn't have been an issue at all.

The pictures seem to have all vanished, which is a pity. Is there a duplicate anywhere?

Same here, can't see em anymore.
-
Even I registered late so I don't know Admiral Steele's and Admiral Calder's faces. Please give us a sneak-peek.
-
Yeah, same here. Definitely need to reupload.
-
Just had a look for them, can't find them anywhere I'm afraid. I think they may be on my PC which died a couple months back. Might be salvegeable when I transfer the HDD to a new box.

Oi! That's a pain, I feel it all the way over where I'm at. GL trying to get the HDD files to a new home, thumbs up for one of the most awesome mods I've played.

Hey battuta look what I found it's what you just tried to revive except years ago and better.
