I posted this in General Discussion so it won't affect post count.
Any starshatter folk, click on the link in the quote above to go to the discussion about starshattermods.com and possible HLP hosting. This thread isn't really created for discussion, only to bring in anyone pulling their hair out trying to find their old starshatter buddies / mods.
Alan Bolte from our site uploaded the StarShatter content to gameupdates.org here (http://gameupdates.org/details.php?id=5035), which was mentioned in the Starshatter
Source Code Released thread, here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=79191.msg1606027#msg1606027), if that helps you as well.
Google search engine stuff:
starshatter is the name of the game
starshattermods.com is the name of the site that is down; apparently the admin can't be reached.
www.starshattermods.com would be the full address of the site
starshatter site down -- perhaps people would be searching for this in Google.
starshatter homepage - or perhaps this, you never know.
new starshatter website -- this is still to be determined; there is talk of hosting StarShatter Mods here on HLP
starshatter mods - some of these were uploaded to gameupdates.org until a new mirror can be found for them besides the gameupdates one
starshatter: the gathering storm - this is apparently the name of the Source Code Update to StarShatter
starshatter starblazer - a mod for StarShatter; I don't know much about it

I may be completely off here but doesn't Google rank pages based on how often things link to them, not just the keywords they contain

Indeed. This sort of tag spam gets rated as tag spam by the google algo and gets ignored.

Well, I've been able to search for topics hours after creating them and they show up in Google near the top, if they are specific. But I didn't tag spam those posts. However, there was definitely no time or even any reason for other sites to link to them.

There are plenty of links to them - that's how a forum works; you click on a thread in a list and it links you to the thread.

If you can figure a good way to get a link into the wikipedia article, that already shows up on the first page.
EDIT: Battuta says to not do that. And it seems wise, in retrospect.

No, don't do that.
The post we made about the source code release has been indexed by Google, but it's not very high up and we probably shouldn't go about google bombing it.

Once the established home of the Starshatter code project (or whatever they call it) is on HLP, sure we can link to HLP. But doing it now is incredibly premature. Worse, it might look like an attempt by HLP to take over the Starshatter community. Which is exactly what we wish to avoid.
Anyway, given that this entire thread is both premature and irrelevant. I'm locking it. Discussion can continue on the other thread.

No, jr2, this thread will not be unlocked. For one, it still does not serve any purpose, if you want hard light to come up in searches for Starshatter, you need to link to this place from other places. Having these sort of incestuous links between boards on the same forum does not help.
