Title: Set-object-speed absolute axes don't align with FRED axes
Post by: General Battuta on May 12, 2012, 12:23:22 pm
Makes the SEXP a real pain in the ass to use. Unfortunately it can't be fixed without breaking a ton of missions. Will have to be done as a new SEXP.

I should probably make up a clear test mission and mantis this.

Second the request for a fix here. The maths to use a workaround are a pain in the neck.

Does the version of FRED a mission is created in show up in the mission file?  If so, you could make it so that missions created before the fix use the old style, and mission created after use the correct style.  (style not being the correct word, I know)

This is a godawful idea, please do not under any circumstances implement it. The last thing we need is to keep multiple versions of FRED around so we can edit our old missions without breaking them.

It seems like the issue isn't really as simple as originally described, because in at least a couple missions I've looked at the coordinate axes do align. Yet Black Wolf and I both ran into something. Further testing required!

jr2: What we have here is _some_ error, whether it's in the sexp code or the event code is something that needs to be determined. In any case, the error is most probably not with FRED but with FSO (since FRED does not execute any sexp code).

Err... not that it matters, as this is apparently not a good idea and probably not FRED-related, but, all you would have to do is retain the ability of FRED to do old-style Set-object-speed SEXPs when it loads a mission created by an older version of FRED.

Regardless, apparently it's not a good idea!  :nervous: :warp:

That's still wrong. There would be no way to update a mission created with the old version of FRED to use the new version of the SEXP.

Seriously, it's an all round bad idea, just give up on it. :p

:banghead:   <-- But if I keep hitting it, it might go away and I might get a cookie for a good idea!  :pimp:

... What?  Why are you looking at me like that?    :nono:    :snipe:
