First of all, sorry if this post is in the wrong place or if this has already been solved; this is my first post on here.
I tried to upgrade to 3.6.14 RC6, but whenever a ship jumps in, the framerate slows right down, then returns to normal after the warpin sequence completes.
I'm not using MediaVPs and am using a Samsing RV511 with 2.53Ghz CPU and 5.5g as my launcher.
Anyone got any ideas?

Your log file please (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359). Also, when did you last update the drivers for your graphics card?
-
Log file attached. Also as the computer is less than three months old, the graphics drivers have not been updated.

Have you double-checked that they're up to date? New computers sometimes, if not often, include outdated drivers.
Found root pack 'D:\Games\FreeSpace2\mv_core.vp' with a checksum of 0x5e2f9ee7
Delete this file.
-
I've double checked with Intel: my graphics drivers are up to date.
-
Have you deleted mv_core.vp from D:\Games\FreeSpace2 yet?
If deleting that file doesn't solve the problem, be sure to post another log.
-
I deleted it- now my weapons are screwed up and also, now when capital ships explode it also slows the framerate.

New log file attached.

Try again with the -noglsl commandline flag (In the launcher under troubleshoot->Disable GLSL support). Reason being that Intel chipsets have absolutely crappy GLSL shader handling.
-
That's done it! Thanks, E.
Should I restore mv_core.vp then?

Weeeell....
You can play with the mediavps, but please please please follow the install instructions for them. Under no circumstances should you place files from the mediavps (or any other mod) in the root FS2 folder.
-
Ah.
So it did belong to the mediavps (i deleted them all, or so I thought.)
Would GLSL problems slow the frame on the media vps too?

I'm confused - I have a number of vp files in my FreeSpace2 root folder (smart, sparky, tango, warble, etc). Are they not supposed to be there? Should they be in the \mediavps_3612 folder instead?
I'm confused since the Turrey installer placed them there.

Here's a list of .vp files that should be in the root directory. EVERY OTHER VP FILE is, by definition a mod file, and does not belong there.
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\FS2OGGcutscenepack.vp' ... 10 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\multi-mission-pack.vp' ... 110 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\multi-voice-pack.vp' ... 307 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\root_fs2.vp' ... 157 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\smarty_fs2.vp' ... 10 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\sparky_fs2.vp' ... 3027 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\sparky_hi_fs2.vp' ... 1337 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\stu_fs2.vp' ... 2355 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\tango1_fs2.vp' ... 32 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\tango2_fs2.vp' ... 15 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\tango3_fs2.vp' ... 10 files
Searching root pack 'D:\FS2\warble_fs2.vp' ... 52 files

I don't have those first three on your list. Did they perhaps come with a mod I don't have installed (I only have FS1, FS2, ST:R, Awakenings, Cardinal Spear and Destiny of Peace).
-
The first one is just the cutscene .vp. If you have your (FS2) cutscenes somewhere or don't care about them at all, ignore that file. The second and third are multiplayer files. If you don't plan on playing multiplayer, you don't need them.

Yep, i've got the OGG cutscenes so that's covered and no, I don't play multi-player, so these files are inconsequential. Thanks for the clarification.
