This didn't show up in any stickies so I'm sorry if I'm stepping on a FAQ thread somewhere. Anyway I got it into my head to try to install FS2open on my current machine. Windows 7 64-bit, multi-monitor, current nvidia drivers, Phenom x4. I still have my old disk in good condition so I thought I'd install from that instead of buying twice. The installer WILL NOT RUN. Looking online with my limited google-fu it looks like it will take over an hour for the executable to form a visible window and 36 hours to complete install if my case is anything like the last one I can find. I can't do that. So... Anybody have a solution I couldn't find because SEO'd crap sites drowned it out?

NVM. I had an old copy of AVG installed. Once I removed that it seems to be working just fine. I'll go MSE to replace it. Apparently it really doesn't like antivirus, more than normal.

Great! To avoid this situation in the future, you could copy your entire \freespace2\ directory onto an external HDD or DVD or whatever as a backup. Mainly since FS2 isn't particularly picky about installation; the launcher will create any necessary registry entries when run, if those registry entries do not yet exist. When you need to get FS2 up and running on a new system, just copy the directory there from your backup, run the launcher and boom. That's it.
