Title: tstrings.tbl is not working

Hi!

I want modify language in games. But I see, If I modify this file (tstrings.tbl), I don't see any result in this game. No other mod(s) active.

Game version is FS2 GoG, and FSO 3.6.12(d/r), Win7 x64.

Setting language to English
This means that the english-language entries in tstrings.tbl (everything under "#default") are used.

In theory. But not in reality, I see. The question is, why don't work this?

Oh, I see. If the language is set to english, then the default entries in the various tables and mission files are used.

Thanks, okay, I want modify tstrings.tbl (no other way to create compatible translate), and I want see result (modified text) in game, what can I do?

Change the language from English. Either alter the registry entry or alter the language written in the table. Either should work.

Maybe this is the kind of option that would be good to have in the launcher...

It's in the retail launcher. Just not in the SCP one.

Hi!

I try your ideas.
First. I see, English language in tstrings.tbl is fake. Not uses Freespace2 this, never.

Second, I can't change language to anything, example, if I change language to "hungarian" or "fakelanguagename" in registry (I see this in Launcher/registry tab), this is fake, because in log I see this:

And I can't see any modified text in this game (in tstrings.tbl I try change section name to #hungarian)

But, if I change language in registry  to German, this is work, if no #German section in tstrings.tbl,  game is crashed with debug version. Very good!
If I change language in registry to German, and #German section available in tstrings.tbl, then this game use tstrings.tbl, and I see modified texts. Thank you. This way is works for me.

This is small cosmetic problem, I think very few language stored in exe file (German, French etc), if I want other language names than stored, modified language text in game is not possible, because internal language name change back to English.

Yeah, I took a quick look at the localisation code just now. I never realised it was quite as **** until now.

Nope. I never realised because those who don't speak French, German or Polish, which are the three languages supported. If anyone had ever finished a translation into another language I'd have realised earlier.
