Title: What happened to the Zods?
Post by: azile0 on June 18, 2012, 07:33:25 pm
I'm referring specifically to the voice synthesizer from FS1 compared to the synthesizer in FS2. Is it just me, or did the FS1 Zods sound better, cleaner, and all around less annoying? FS2 Zods sound like they're talking through an industrial fan.

audio tech improved enough so that in FS2 they could make it actually sound synthesized.  in all honesty i never even realized the vasudan voices in FS1 were supposed to sound like translators until i played fs2.  i thought it was weird that they all sounded the same, and never even registered the untranslated vasudan language behind it.

I prefer the FS2 way, though maybe that's because I played it first.

FS1 Zod was pretty awesome, less immersive I guess, but it still sounded suitably translator-like IMO.

And easier to discern for nonnative speakers. :nervous:

To be honest, that's kind of what I'd expect a translation program from THE FUTURETM to sound like, as opposed to synthesized.

1st version sounded monotonous, with the exception of a few more-than-monotone screams.

Yeah, the FS2 translator managed to convey some actual emotion and personality, as opposed to being completely deadpan.

The zods are an endangered species. Next time you see one; perform the duty of killing them.

FS2-era translators are clearly more advanced then their FS1 counterparts, able to show tone of voice among other things.

It could also be that the Vasudans in FS2 era, instead of having generic "Terran" voices, had more personalized voices and chose the pitch that sounds appealing to them if they had to listen to themselves.
