Big thanks to vasudan admiral for help on how to make the animated clamp work! (and general understanding how the animation code functions. :p )

Great to see this being finished. Are you going to do it's container, too?

Not planning to at the moment, but to be honest the current crate does not look bad with the normals c: maybe all it needs is some crevices in the important parts and not a full build up. So maybe?

Love the design of the engines on this. Shall watch this space. :)

Awpdate, I was planning to make this post yesterday buut I got distracted by beer and friends.
Did mesh adjustment to make it resemble the retail texture, sadly I had to remove some of the details on the side. :1 , redesigned the clamp, the shape is mostly in place and maybe if I split the arms in two would be a cool addition.
Next to do is to round the rails around the engine area a bit.

(the engine area resembles a smiley face :p)

Thanks guys!
Right, spent the day modelling a 3 part clamp that is going to have an animation when docking with cargo. (hopefully c: )
Rounded the back engine and it's pretty much done by now so moving my attention to the front and start thinking on the single part turrets.  Also found a second smileyface on the mesh, but not gonna reveal where it is :p
Currently planning to have the mesh done by friday or around that time.

Mesh is pretty much done, time to fix smoothing areas for details and uvmap!

Not to be ungrateful, because that's some damn good work... but, could we have a perspective shot from an angle of what it looks like?  It's kind of hard to judge using those perfect orthographic perspectives.

Can you find _all_ the faces? I'm pretty sure there are 5 in total. :p

cheers! about the Bast BAH THATS A BABBY CHALLANGE! TINY CRYING BABY CHALLANGE!
Funny thing about that I was actually thinking of picking it up after the amun and newet. As for design the Bast is fairly simple and symmetrical with a huge plated top area and machinery under. As in common with most vasudan designs, but I won't pick it up or s would do before I'm done with my two next models. c:

Note, he asked for a completely new design, not enhancing the existing one. Though that's even more unlikely.

Very nice work Oddgrim. Which containers does this thing take again I forget? I have a VC3 already modeled if that is the one just don't remember ever seeing it used for anything other than target practice.

As of current the animated clamp is not completed yet or started the work animating it, but I don't think it would pose a issue right now.

cheers, the ma'at uses the VC4 crate but I'm planning to test if it's comparable with other types as well when that stage happens.

update:
More stuff! I finished baking and UV mapping the freighter and vomited some rough texturing over the bits and started here and there detailing. It’s still a veeeery rough version of the final product. A lot more to do, fun fun!

I belive so! the tricky part is to make it stick.. :p

Mm, yeah I can see that. The final product will in no way be like that town in a ship form though. :p

If not, it's a nice touch :P
cheers! But I can't take full credit for it since the original texture does have a satis like element under as well. It's pretty cool!

Worked more on the clamp and the crate docking area with some lightmap testing. While the general armour plating around it needs some colour correction. All in all I think the clamp is looking sweet so far. c:

Think I got the docking area and the sides decently right. Going for a bit organic look at parts while retraining the stiffness of the (blurry!) retail textures. Picking up the pace I left it at 3 days ago, lets see if I can finish this before going over to try out the shiny new crate mjn made for it c:

Went heavier on the meshsmooth than I'd have liked in some places but that texture job is drop-dead gorgeous. I also like what you did with the weird bridge thing that I had no idea what to do with, nicely done. Clamp is basically same as I'd have done if I had gotten the time to do it, not much more to say about that.

Can't wait to see it finished.

nonsense, I think it will fit and if not we will rebuild it, WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!  :D

cheers, nice to see that you mostly approve. Smoothing is well all ways changing a bit but I rather do too much then too little.

Nonsensical rambling:
Texturing.. That docking area takes up most of my focus, as for general style I really want to go for a run down cargo hauler look. (which the original model is.) Redesigned a bit on the engine area and thus had to re-bake the textures, I think it looks overall better now then before. Come to think of it, most of this will be obstructed by a huge crate.. damn it. :P

Baked lights test, I still have to adjust, place more lights and texturing the bridge area.
After done with the top I'll shift my attention to the underside. Making progress!  ;)

Finished off most of the top , only some areas require tuning and polish. Started the fun part of the underside and lining up areas up for colouring and setting up lights for glow points. Actually thinking of doing some texture redesign on the clamp but that will have to wait.

I believe this is due to the lack of shinemap. You are only seeing unfiltered normals here. c:

I'm not sure if it's your lighting settings, but the model looks greasy/lacquered. Edit: This might be due to the fact that your shine maps are grey-scale instead of colored. Everything reflects white (like a clear layer of laminate would) rather than the underlying color of the metal.

Aside from that, it's amazing work.
