Title: Rotate Turret does not work
Post by: Blazar on July 05, 2012, 05:41:53 am
I have tried for 5 weeks and used different variations on the tutorial: Make rotatable turrets. Every time it fails.
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63643.0.html

I have folowed it to the letters form
•6.   Turrets (Do once per turret type)
to
•Attaching turrets

The turret fire's, however doesn't rotate in game.
I have wondered what the obstacle could be:

Maybe it could be the reset x-form:

1. i have set the reset x form first for the base > then collapse To.

2. then the turret arm > then collapse To.

After that, so after the dummy helper and so in the tut doesn't say that you have to collaps to again.

I am totally stuck.
Anyone suggestions?

Well, there's no guessing what you might be doing wrong without seeing your ship model and tabling.

I have put the models and table
in a rar. file. It is a platform and a huge cannon :sigh:

If nobody knows the answer. How do you guy's do it?
Is there a more detailed tutorial then this one?
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63643.0.html

Questions;
-Do i need to use the Collapse To or Collapse All
-Do i need to do at more points in the proces a reset x form?

-In the Tut at point 3:
■3.   Move the arrow until it sits where the base should pivot on. (Imagine this is the pin/peg that the base is attached to)

Does there need to be more adjustments?

How difficult can this be dudes  :doubt:

Show us the .pof you end up with after exporting

If you're using a non-old PCS2 version, rename "firepoints" to "multifirepoints" and that should do it. Also, the arm's pivot is naturally in the wrong place, and when you move that, move "multifirepoints" to the same location as well.

Here goes. I only had to adjust the direction of the firepoints and i also did the recalculate (in Header) of course.
The .pof file couldn't be uploaded > .rar test is the .pof

Yes, in re-examining my steps. I did see the error of the arm pivot and did accordingly adjust if. Still nothing.
I will now try :
rename "firepoints" to "multifirepoints"

I use PCS 2.1 Alpha release (April 1 2012)
Fingers crossed

While I unforunately cannot open the max file (I have an old version of max) and thus can't check where you could have gone wrong, I did notice one thing in the .pof.
That is, the turret barrel needs to be pointing upward if its on the top of the ship/platform when you export it.  Else the orientation of the turret gets messed up ingame. (which doesnt explain why the turret itself isnt moving though)

For others who encounter this problem.
The hierachy structure of the Tut did not work for me:
The first schematic view

The schematic view second version ( of zookeeper ) did work
The structure is diferent.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

That would have been way easier to just do in PCS2....

If you want those pictures to stay for future reference, attaching them to your post is a terrible idea. Attachments get automatically deleted every few days/weeks. You might want to host them somewhere else.

You are right. In game the barrels are going completely vertical, at an 90 degree angle.
How to change it, so that they are moving in the vertical direction at 45-60 degrees or so?
The base is rotating nicely in the horizontal plane

Thanks for pointing that out.
